Odd question. On a dual core or hyper threaded machine
Is it possible to enter a patched version into one of the 'slots' in the boinc file directory and a different patched version into another 'slot' and run them. If that is possible i can test two versions at once and only one maybe unstable- avoid ruining two units.
If you're willing to try: in slot directory (slots/0 or something) you have file with name einstein_S5R1_4.02_windows_intelx86.exe. This implies executable but it's rather an XML file saying it's a soft link pointing to real executable.
I wonder what happens if you replace this XML file with a real executable? Is BOINC CC smar enough to notice it and run it directly or will it choke?

Another idea: what if you simply edit the XML file to point to different executable?
OOOO thanks for pointing those out. I'm tring it in a minute. Going to try switching one of the units to athe latest stable reease. I see no reason to try another not tested patch and possibly ruin the unit.

I tried them myself and don't work. Any of them :(
Well that was wierd. No couldn't get it to work. The exe in the slot will not let me edit it so first tried swaping for patched app-no luck.
Then tried patching the file that was in the 'slot' file and strangely it patched ok. but didn't work.
I thought maybe the exe file itself maybe was just a name reference so tried to remname - derecting to app with diffrent name but no.
Tried editing the .xml file to look in a diffrent directory for einstien and copied all the files over to that directory but when boinc run it just switched it back.
Tried renaming the app name in the .xml file to run a app with a name i chose but again just switched back.
Sorry this is outside of my knowledge.
Nothing it tried even bothered it. Just started up and ran like i'd done nothing so i suspect its something coded into boinc

I just patched 07 over 03, because I forgot to save the original
exe file. My bad?

Yes, you can.
These patches exchange a whole subroutine. So you can overwrite it with an other at any time.
