From your link, I've replaced my CLI superbench 5.2.13 with 5.4.9 within BOINC Manager of the former version. Both reads their version respectively and they run fine. Are there any implications of such action toward the project....?

Elphidieus,

I installed the regular 5.4.9 client first and then replaced the client within 5.4.9 with the SuperBench version. All 3 WUs validated o.k. so far.

Hi ChillyWilly,

you can find the 5.4.9 SuperBench client for Panther here: 5.4.9 Universal Clients

Thanks Martin, I checked it the other day and it was still Tiger only. I appreciate the link!

Just reporting that I’ve

Just reporting that I’ve now completed six WUs on my G4/733 using v4.56, all valid. I’m deploying the app on my other two Macs, which are G4/400s.

OK, one more question. I see

OK, one more question. I see that the BOINC_5.4.9SuperBenchUniversal for Panther is a CLI client that is GUI compatable. Does that mean that I can somehow integrate it into Berkeley's stock build, or do I have to run it from Terminal? After decompression, I have a 1.4 MB document that I don't know what to do with and I'm woefully inept in Terminal.

(Edit) If all else fails, Google it! Looks good so far, I can't wait to finish my cache of SETI 4.18 WU's and get busy crunching Einstein WU's!

Thanks again for pointing out that the Panther version had been posted.

Gaurav Khanna, who also contributed to the AltiVec code of the official App, claims that the very same (source) code I am using compiles into an App that runs about 30% faster on his G5 than the 4.56 App. We're both using the same Xcode version and the same compiler flags - and are both plexed at the difference. This definitely needs further investigation, but there are also some other urgent tasks to do.

For a scenario, a G5 1.9GHz with a 10,000 sec LWU on 4.39 and 4.56. After recompile, 30% faster = 7,000 sec....

Crappy P4 2.4 GHz fanless heatsink system running ThreadMaster at 65% capacity, completes a 4500 sec LWU at ~ 7000 sec.....

Is there really no hope for Altivec, or Einstein's sucks at Altivec optimisation....?

Damn, I hate Intel for swaying Apple on the switch...!!!

You might also blame Motorola and IBM, for failing to meet Apple’s requirements …

And should I blame you as well for the double standards....?
