Bye! I'm dropping Einstein

Bye!

I'm dropping Einstein not because we have to return to the stock app, but because this situation should have been prevented in the first place. I am sure that was the intention of bringing Akos in as a consultant, and someone has failed to distinguish themselves. Once again the absence of comment from project staff is startling. Why is it left to Akos to make such an announcement? They seem to regard him as a Spartacus who we will all follow blindly. Oh, of course, in some cases that is true.

Dead men don't get the baby washed. HTH

Hi people!

I see that some of us don't understand the current situation. So, the Einstein@Home staff would be get scientificaly reliable results. Unofficial apps can't meet this requirement, because these applications aren't accepted by any different scientific groups.

Akosf
We appreciate all of your hard work, it has been great. Maby in a while the other scientific groups will reconize it and you can get them out again.
Cheers
Ray

we should all switch from ferrari to a bicycle ?

This bicycle is still a Ducati 900 SS Desmo so it won't be too bad :-)

The stock application is optimized, it just does not squeeze out the last potential of the CPU.

After aborting all my work

After aborting all my work units, I've shut down 8 machines. The silence is deafening! Room starting to get cool, too. Can't bear the thought of running the standard application with all it's blinding speed, so I'll sit this one out for a while.

OK, sad though it is, what I believe people need to do is:

1) set No New Work or No New Tasks in Einstein, or equivalent in your version of Boinc Manager
2) abort all Einstein WUs, whether running or queued.
3) Update the project to report this back.
4) Exit Boinc Manager, and if running Boinc as a service, stop the service
5) Delete the app_info.xml file and the all the patched material, the patched application, the patch files, patcher.com
6) shed a tear for progress
7) Start Boinc Manager (having started the Boinc service if running that way)
8) Reset the Einstein Project to make it download the standard application properly again, unless you are sure it is still there
9) Set Allow New Work or Allow New Tasks or equivalent
10) sit back and watch the WUs crawl by again.

That has worked for me. Others may find variants for different situations.

Akos, nice try and I hope some of these ideas get into the official application again. Thanks again for the fun!

Mike

I have used only the proven

I have used only the proven stable releases, but I will comply with the project's wishes and run only the official client. Here's hoping they incorporate Akos's improvements into it soon.

i´ve droped the project from boinc and switch to another one (QMC@HOME).
every project would be happy with akos "patched" applications.

I suspended E@H. Until

I suspended E@H.

Until things get clear over here I will crunch somewhere else.
The only way out I see in the moment would be, if the project would add the features of the patches from Akos into the offical app.

This would save a lot of time and prevent people from leaving.

Michael
