That would be a very good idea. I'm already taking part in a few alpha and beta projects .
Also would like to point out that I have been careful with the testing to make sure that i was not submitting garbage to the project. I did not even mix apps while doing results because I don't think that is a proper way to test. I did complete runs with one test app and verified that is was valid b4 allowing anymore to be done with that app because I did not want to see us get in this kind of situation. I guess there are a lot of people that are not as careful when they test. So once again a few spoil it for the rest.
:(
Didn't mean to imply you were being careless, I know you're no "nugget" here in EAH. :-)
I guess the main reason is the rate they were being developed and the reduction in the initial replication made it more likely this could occur.
In any event, one would like to think the saviness level of EAH members is higher, so I don't think this will lead to any kind "flap" like even the smallest change to anything at SAH does frequently. :-)

I never thought you were , just added that so others might learn some proper techniques when testing. So as to help avoid this from happening if we can be allowed to do more testing.
In case some don't know , nugget is slang for idiot.
I'm not sure if all people are so civic-minded and go back to the official application.
LOL... I'd have to agree with you there LiborA!
Perhaps the project should just start refusing any result from a non-standard app, because there is NO way people are going to give up their optimized apps voluntarily. Most will say they didn't see Akos' post asking us to stop using them. Others will say they didn't think it applied to them because their results are valid. A lot of folks will simply stop posting to the board altogether for a while because they won't want anyone to think they were here and saw the message.

A bit cynical maybe? Yeah, I guess I am :)
I hope everyone who is publishing the patches or applications has or will quickly take the download site off-line for now. Mike

I don't understand how results that pass validation can be bad.
Some more info please.

1)
It may be that there are just to many verities of it and some being bad. Things are changeing so fast that most can not keep up with the newest patch.
2)
If 2 people use the same bad patch they can still look good if they have the same result.
So it may be good for all to go back to stock till one has been tested on test data and proven good, maby 2 SSE and SSE3. Or 3 if something else would help AMD more also.
Maybe it would be a good idea to increment the minor version of the stock application.
By doing this, those boxes with apps_info.xml would not receive work anymore for now and those using the patch without the app_info would receive a fresh stock application.
That would help reaching those who do not read this forum frequently.

It would have to be incremented to above 4.10, but that should be possible. A lot of downloading for all users though, so extra strain on the server. Mike
edit: Probably these units will be send out again. ( about 5000 WUs at moment )
I looked at all My 29 already crunched S5 WU - from this is 26 crunched by optimalized aplication. All of these 26 WUs were crunched by official aplication by second cruncher - is it necessary to send out these WUs again in this case?
I see that some of us don't understand the current situation. So, the Einstein@Home staff would be get scientificaly reliable results. Unofficial apps can't meet this requirement, because these applications aren't accepted by any different scientific groups.

Try the Pizza@Home project, good crunching.
