yes guys, time to say good bye !
i´ve droped the project from boinc and switch to another one (QMC@HOME).
every project would be happy with akos "patched" applications.

make this patches official so that the "stupid office people" accept such results.
i never understand such a ****.

so long with a high optim. client and open minds ;)

regards and bye !!!

p.s. @akos : big big thanks for your great job(s). you´re the best ;)

It seems E@H-Team want to lose all it crunchers if I see this "funny" way to handle AkosF's optimations. Akos patches brought a lot of life into this project. and now for it seems that the E@H-Staff want to throw it away.

Maybe we should involve our Rechenkraft into another project.

Ouch! Is it possible to become a statement from this people?

Anybody that wants to help a

Anybody that wants to help a beta-test, over to QMC@Home!

Understand that I am not criticising Akos here. People did behave like wild animals - trying 3 patches consecutively during the run of a single WU, for example. Concerns expressed by pepperammi, Gary Roberts and others have been entirely vindicated.

The final straw was the version number nonsense. Paradoxically, I suspect that without that, we would not be getting told to roll back to the stock app now. We might get told, one day.

edit: Probably these units will be send out again. ( about 5000 WUs at moment )

I looked at all My 29 already crunched S5 WU - from this is 26 crunched by optimalized aplication. All of these 26 WUs were crunched by official aplication by second cruncher - is it necessary to send out these WUs again in this case?

Look at it this way:

In S4, Akos' apps came into the picture relatively late in the game and the IR was 3. In this case the probability of the number of optimized results being selected as the canonical result and being put in the MSD was not large enough to be worth making a federal case out of it.

However, with S5 this is no longer the case. They are running the search at full sensitivity for the first time and to be considered scientifically valid, the study protocol *must* be followed, therefore continuity and control over the application doing the analysis must be maintained.

This was the main reason I asked about setting up a beta project so the envelope can be pushed without having to risk the validity of the main project.

And where does that leave S4? How much of that was done with unofficial apps?

I suspended E@H.

Until things get clear over here I will crunch somewhere else.
The only way out I see in the moment would be, if the project would add the features of the patches from Akos into the offical app.

This would save a lot of time and prevent people from leaving.

cu,
Michael

Hi Michael,
full ack.
My last 2 hosts crunch the last S4 WUs then disabled from project too, 2 other are disabled from E@H, because it is no acceptable 75h/WU to crunch on a Duron 1200 System!
All hosts crunch then 100% for SIMAP.

Maybe, sometimes the project-development find a way to get the cruncher back, I will hope so.
Akos is on the right way to increase the speed of the project, but "someone", we all know him, is throwing big stones on the optimizing way.

Thank you ***** (name zensored)

and: when the validator is so

and: when the validator is so hard as its always sad, how can a client like 0709 wich produces results that are valided together with normal clients make wrong results?

I thougt 1 bit difference already makes it invalid. and when the result is EXACT the same... whats wrong with it?

I would REALLY like to see a statement from the project about this. S4 was finished many days early due to Akos' work, and the S5 application has benefited enormously from this. At that time the project appeared to show exceptional understanding and sympathy and won a lot of hearts. Where has this gone? What has changed?

I admit I too am wondering about going elsewhere, it is no fun to watch long WUs creeping by processed by a slower than necessary application, even though I strongly support the science. It costs me a lot in electricity to do this stuff, and my pay-back is the enjoyment, the fun. Watching the running-slowly-backwards race isn't enjoyment. That is why I prefer Formula 1 racing to steam-roller racing, there is the innovation, the speed, the risk I suppose. But I'll give the project a little time, the science itself remains the most important thing in a project. I will happily contribute to any beta project.

Project Officers: The statement please?!?! Sadly, Mike

I would hazard to guess that

I would hazard to guess that everything before S5 are considered to be "pilot" runs for the full sensitivity ones to follow.

This might be a reason not much comment was made of Akos' work popping in during the middle of S4.

Keep in mind, plans have always been in the works to improve Einstein-S5 as the study progresses, it's just that it needs to be done in a controlled fashion.

One other point here, I guess we'll be seeing how many of the newer members are here for the science.
