I was wondering if there is any kind of reward for Akos Fekete concerning his marvelous optimizations.

I think that he demonstrated outstanding combination of feautures - he is clever and skillful engineer with capability of optimizing the applications, and he devoted (and is still being to do so) considerable amount of his free time for performing the tests and developing the optimized versions. Both of the characteristics themselves are not so outstanding; however, the combination of them is what is remarkable.

Therefore, I think he should be offered by some kind of reward, not only the good feeling of helping a lot that he surely has.

Are there any signs of such an offer? E.g., lump-sum financial award (external remuneration), or job offer?

I am a professional scientists, so I understand very well that financial and other resources of any scientific team are severely limited (not only from the material point of view, but also bureaucratic and managerial one), however, it is also mathematically clear that Akos enabled (at least in the future) to analyze the data more efficiently. This should have a direct impact on the quality of the data output and scientific work (e.g., in a form of deeper analysis or higher precision and accuracy), and subsequently also on published results and publication quality/speed.

I am convinced that this definitely deserves some kind of reward. It can also be a good investment in future willingness and motivation of EAH users to actively improve and contribute to the running of the project.
I also thing that many of the users would support this opinion.

I would highly appreciate some kind of reaction from the responsible staff. Thank you very much.

Your post is indeed a very noble gesture. I do think that Akos should get something back for his efforts, too. If I would be in his place, I would set up a Paypal account asking the participants of E@H for a small donation. Think only of the electricity (and therefore money) saved due to the incredible fast clients. I personally save a lot of money due to the faster clients requiring to run my computers for a short time and yet get the same results.

The staff of E@H is already doing an incredible job. And they are (as far as I understand this) payed by some official (meaning tax financed) institution. It would not make much sense if they would give tax payer's money to Akos, if the tax payers (this is US!) can reward Akos ourselves more efficiently.

If WE want Akos to put effort in the client, WE need to reward him.

I agree with the proposal and

I agree with the proposal and the way to do it (via Paypal).
For sure, it's Akosf's option if he is fine doing it this way.

Could be. He recently

Could be. He recently declined an offer of a late model p4 for testing purposes, so I doubt he'd be willing to take this offer either.

We are very happy to have hired Akos as a consultant for Einstein@Home. He's currently visiting the AEI and right now sitting next to me over the code.

Although I whole heartedly aggree with Mike's sentiments, I think I might need to emigrate to another country.

"Spank the wombat!!" never heard that before :) and not sure I want to understand what it means.
