THAT'S HOT!!!
Here at the Denali National Park in Central Alaska is 51F at 10:30am with a high today near 55F and lows in the mid 40's. We leave tomorrow for the West Coast to pick up our cruise ship that will hop scoth it's way down the coast ending up in Vancouner in a couple of weeks. The temps are expected to be similar to what we have right now the whole time. I wish I had my pc's with me right now instead of being in the 90+F temps at the beach where they are right now, I shut all them down for both safety reasons and to save on the electric bill until I get back home again. Next month the temps drop into the mid 80's for the highs at home with night time temps dropping back into the 60's again.

I don't envy you all! Here in Rockford it will be near 90॰F tomorrow, and next week it will be well into the 90's with Thursday supposedly getting up to 107॰F. Glad I ran all my errands today!

HOLY COW!!! Shut those pc's down and turn the a/c on instead, you will have plenty of tasks waiting to be validated to get you thru a day or two so when you pick back up crunching you won't really have lost anything.
Hilary Local Watch/Warning Statement/Advisory Number 13
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA EP092023
812 AM PDT Sat Aug 19 2023
...TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...
- Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or
uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees
are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown
over.
- A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within
urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving
conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.
- Scattered power and communications outages.
- PLAN: Emergency plans should include the potential for
major flooding from heavy rain. Evacuations and rescues are
likely.
- PREPARE: Strongly consider protective actions, especially
if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding.
- ACT: Heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take
action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life.
- Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and
rescues.
- Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks in
multiple places. Small streams, creeks, canals, arroyos,
and ditches may become dangerous rivers. Destructive runoff
may rage down mountain valleys while increasing
susceptibility to rockslides, mudslides, and debris flows.
Flood control systems and barriers may become stressed.
- Flood waters can enter many structures within multiple
communities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or
washed away. Streets and parking lots become rivers of
moving water with underpasses submerged. Driving conditions
become dangerous. Many road and bridge closures with some
weakened or washed out.
The heat index was reported to be 115F in my town on Saturday.
And just now power went off in the whole house.
That was about 2pm cst. At about 3:45pm it tried to restart. Didn't make it. Came back on about 3:45pm.
Heat index says 128F.
House inside hit 99 before I restarted a/c. It's down a couple of degrees now. But not cooling fast.
I am told someone hit a power pole.

Outside is down to 85F. And interior 82F. With 3 out of 4 systems running.

I first had to read up on what the heat index (HI) is. In Germany we don't know such a combination of temperature and humidity at all. We are only given temperature forecasts and possibly the additional information that muggy or muggy warm air masses are expected without giving an exact measure of humidity.
This color-coded table from NOAA states a HI of 115F is "dangerous" and at ~128F it's: "Extreme danger".
