I would take that weather as well!!! Right now I'm in Oklahoma seeing my younger son and how he's doing on his Masters Degree in Archaeology, he's self paying, and today they have over 1 inch sized hail predicted for the afternoon along with some tornadoes. My son will be showing us around the props from the movie Twister as Norman, Oklahoma is where the National Weather Service has their home base for tornado activity in the US, it's also a safe place to go if a tornado does show up.
As summer arrives, we will be mostly shutting down. It is simply too hot to run on weekends when there is no AC in the buildings and then most hosts will be shut down during the week since we won't have students. I will probably leave our main two or three hosts crunching during a few days of the week but no more than that.

One question though...now that you already have near the tip of the spear pc hardware will you scrap some of it to get new stuff or more likely find new ways to use the existing stuff? I know Tom would not be unhappy if you branched into the EPYC brand of pc's and their hardware but I also know that's not inexpensive.

Good questions! We would most likely repurpose hardware or use it for parts, if needed. We can't sell any of the hardware to raise money to purchase other items because it belongs to the school district. It would either sit not doing anything and rotting, or sit doing something that can help a student- we just have to figure out what that is.
I have wanted to go EPYC for a really long time. Our approved vendors do have some EPYC options but getting approval for the purchase, once funds would be raised, can be complicated. I have found that my highest chance of approval comes from Dell Precision systems because IT is confident in them (as they should be- the Precisions we have are fantastic). The newest Precisions just came out with the 4th Gen Xeons but they will probably never have an EPYC Precision workstation, they reserve those for the PowerEdge systems. I might try to bring in a PowerEdge at some point but I am not sure.
There is a good chance that next years student project will be focusing on bringing solar energy into the school. Ultimate goal- all of our crunching is powered by the sun. I have a massive (and flat) roof above my head here, now we just have to raise a LOT of funds.

Ha! Yeah, we are seeing this more and more. I am actually doing a microbiology project (final) with them. I am allowing them to use AI (such as GPT) only if they want because I want to see how accurate it is. It has yet to come to a correct conclusion when actual thought has to go into the process. This is not impacting their grades if they tried to use AI (they still have to come to their own conclusions) but it has been interesting to see how inaccurate it has been.
I like that process! Instead of fearful attempts to detect and destroy, you actually allow them to use it in such a way that they learn that it's just "another piece of software" written by humans (i.e. to be mistrusted) and of the risks of relying on technology without using your own grey matter. Nice!
