Mike is in Australia, so it's probably about 3:45 a.m. there as I write this.

Arrghh ......

'Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again'

Are you sitting behind a proxy server? That might explain a lot. ;-(

Cheers, Mike.

Also wise to have TCP port 3389 open. Follow the How To further. ;)

(Don't use Remote Desktop, as Brad's system is XP Home which can't do RD)

Brad, if you are using ADSL of sorts, check your splitter. I noticed dropping line speeds and connections here last week. It showed that my splitter was broken, had to replace it. It's the little box that splits your incoming phone line into the phone cable and the dataline.

Of course, if you're running another version of broadband, then I didn't type one iota. :)

Hi folks, I'm new here but I

Hi folks, I'm new here but I seem to be having the same problem. I am running Einstein, Predictor, and Seti, the only one I'm having trouble with is Seti. This is what I get:
12/21/05 8:54:02 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed with a return value of 500
12/21/05 8:54:02 PM|SETI@home|No schedulers responded
Any input for me? I am running windows 98, on a DELL Dimension 4100, I have plenty of memory and plenty of disk space. I have read the seti tech pages and their progress pages but I have had this problem for several days now. Should I wait it out?

Problem solved!! The whole

Problem solved!! The whole nine yards! :-)
Dear Brad had just about every protection software suite known to man installed ( about ten products - now un-installed ). Bless him! :-)
I guess the CGI scripts were getting blocked as defensive therapy - I understand they can be viewed with suspicion by such software. Now he's got choose one and re-install so as to not go bare.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Yes!! It all seems good to

Yes!! It all seems good to go. All my security apps were more the result of pack-rat mentality than paranoia. Nothing of real value on this pc, and I love to tinker blindly (reformatting is routine for me, and system restore is pinned to my start menu). I told Mike as he rampaged through my system, my pc is entirely a "source of innocent merriment". (Gilbert and Sullivan). Boinc is a form of penance.

Anyway, much thanks to all for your efforts!

(and I learn yet again about too much of a good thing)

Congratulations to Mike for

Congratulations to Mike for solving the mystery. Helps
a lot, if you have access to the PC.

I suppose Brad is glad I am no longer torture him with Ethereal.

Welcome to Einstein, now in full swing, Brad.

Aahhh, but I knew what hadn't already worked! So we ALL contributed. ( Early appendicitis looks like anything, late appendicitis looks like nothing else - so the last doctor looks like the clever dick! ) :-)
