hay I don't mind. I found the discussion interesting.
From what I read of your posts It sounds like the 2.5 Ghz dual core is the end of the line for power PCs. Am I correct?
May be someone could tell me how to change my system name. I have been scratching around and bought a couple of books. I am still stuck with a rather clutzing monicer.

Probably not... the Intel Macs will be at the low end first, laptops, mini, etc. At the high end, they'll continue to use the G4/G5 for another year. So if a 3GHz becomes available in enough quantity, they'd likely have a "speed bump" in the meantime.

Tom's Hardware did something

Tom's Hardware did something like that once, I forget what they got the clock up to, but it was pretty high. There were two guys pouring the liquid coolant which they just let boil away. NOt sure if the article is still there or not ...

Hey Mark, Do you realise

Hey Mark,

Do you realise that your pride & joy with its 4 CPUs each churning out a result in 13,000 seconds!!! (WOW!!!) has also (until just recently) been claiming 229 credits for each result (WHAT!!!!!) :).

The only reason I know is because one of my old clunkers suddenly got a credit of about 160 and I got such a shock I just had to go investigate!!! :). When you think of the 70,000 users you could get hooked up with, what are the chances of finding yourself teamed up with a powerhouse like that!!! And especially one whose owner you know!!! :). What brand of steroids are you feeding that beast!!! :).

Thanks for the bonus mate, but unfortunately it's definitely a one-off deal as suddenly your machine is now claiming a much more pedestrian 45 and everybody's now going to avoid you like the plague!!! :).

Cheers,
Gary.

Gary
I switched back to the default 5.2.13 boinc core client. I had been using the MacNN 5.2.13 Super Benchmark. I plan to switch back and forth each week. I figure it is fairest compromise between the way to high or low Claimed Credits using just one or the other.
I really like the crunch times I am getting, 26 and sometimes 27 results a day, if they ever come out with 3Ghz it will be awesume.

Nahhh... Something like this or this is what you might term "extreme" crunching :). Imagine a few stacks of those in your basement :).

Cheers,
Gary.

Gary That is extreme

Gary
That is extreme indeed.

Another thing that impresses me about the Mac is the regularity. My other machines all have much more varience between result.
I did a back of the envelope calculation, a 3Ghz should return a result in uder 11,000 seconds.

Ahhh.... I see.... Well just give me your weekly schedule so I know exactly when to join you and exactly when to depart... :). And don't tell Michael Roycraft about this because he's bound to want to muscle in on this "too good to be true" deal :).

Seriously, I fully understand your dilemma. 45 is a pretty lousy deal for something that should be worth around 70-75. Don't leave it too long on 45 because I've been in quite a few quorums lately where there are two claiming 45 (or even less) and because they are so fast they are always part of the count. On the other hand there are very few (you are about the first I've seen) claiming +200 so you will never be granted that and if you look through your list of actual grants and average them out you will only be getting 70-80 for most of the time and this is perfectly fair. As more and more multi-cpu machines come on line the chances of being actually awarded 40 are now quite significant :(.

I believe all this will change at some stage as there is a different system of awarding credit being planned which wont have these huge variations.

Why do we get so uptight when that hard earned result only scores 40!?!?!? :).

Cheers,
Gary.
