I upgraded two PCs with licensed OEM products of Win 7. I am not seeing the white "Get Win 10 Flag" in the system tray like on the machine running a licensed retail Win 7 package. Did some looking. OEM products are handled differently in the way they are licensed/registered then retail packages so OEM users might not see this flag. Also not sure how I will be able to "get" Win10 for an OEM product. More frustration and the upgrades have not started yet.
My Win 7 Pro system, (Prometheus), is an OEM, and it was the first computer of the four Win 7's in my family to show the "Get Win 10" icon. If you've just recently updated and installed KB3035583, give the systems at least a day and a half. They should show the icon.

That is good to hear. And your are correct sir. While typing this response I checked one of my OEM machines, an ASUS netop and there it be, a white flag in the system tray. It did take a day or so. And I thought computers were fast.
Think backups!!! I use a free program called 'Reflect' by Macrium, the free version only let's you do full image backups, not incremental ones, but that works for me as I do one on each pc every month. It let's me schedule the backups, I do one per night in the middle of the night, when I'm not using the pc's for anything but crunching.
I do have a small problem with it, I have a NAS backup drive I use but it won't let me backup straight to it, so I have it set to backup to the users/public set of folders, then I cut and paste it to my NAS drive.
Do you have Win7 on a usb stick? If not think about it as it is much faster to reinstall that way. Of course older machines won't boot from a usb stick so you would be back to the dvd way, or the backups. Backups also mean NO more calling the guy in India!!
Well I never have burned the backup they mention every time over the years after I checked once and you had to have 5 or 6 blank disks to do that.........seems strange since the OS isn't that big.
Never tried on a USB stick either (reminds me about 15 years ago I made a copy of XP Pro and that was on one disk)
What is the worst part is doing the 2015 Windows updates after the install from the disk.......and then all the drivers and programs since my DSL acts like it want to run like a dialup when I do this just to ____ me off even more.
I had to do all the Windows updates before I could update the GeForce driver so the 660Ti had to wait until last.
And d/ling the Boinc projects I do took hours (vLHC,Atlas, and CMS-dev take hours and hours on my DSL)
BUT after all is finished it runs like new again which is nice considering the pc itself is not all that new at all.
I wouldn't mind having Win7 and ALL the current updates on one disk........but in a couple months there is the Win10 Upgrade and I could have did the original test install but just never like to stop my Boinc crunching.
Four of four Win 7 systems updated. Four Win 7 systems now showing the "Get Win 10" icon. :-)
I have 4 of mine ready too !
Just have this one I did the clean install on that needs to get that icon.
Btw do they care if you use the same email address when you do that *Reserve*??
I was sort of wondering so I used 4 seperate email addresses
Oh and I picked the WINNER of the Triple Crown race today too
I don't know what they expect for people with multiple computers... My plan was to use one e-Mail address, and confirm each computer one at a time. That is, reserve one, upgrade it, reserve another, and so on. However; I'm NOT doing the upgrades on July 29th. I'm going to wait awhile and see what the guys in SETI Number Crunching say. When they're satisfied that the thing is stable, then I will commence upgrading. (Possibly around December.)

Yeah I will wait too and I'm sure we will hear from other Boinc members how it went when they do the update.
I just did another 27 Windows Update on the one I reinstalled but haven't rebooted yet so maybe when I do it will get that Win10 icon too.
5 of mine are Win7 and I still have my good old XP Pro X86 on #6

Are you still doing the updates on the XP machine?
My own pc's are slowly having the icon show up too, some I still have to do a few dozen upgrades before the Win10 upgrade shows up, why do upgrades if the machine is running Boinc just fine and it's a Boinc only pc anyway? I guess now I know why.

I stopped doing updates on the XP last year since I don't trust microsoft enough to do that.......figured they would give me one last update to crash the OS and try to make me change to Win8.1
It does work fine and it is one of my two older 3-core Phenoms and the only thing that would be good about a OS upgraade is making it a X64 so it could use more than 4GB ram........I did that with the other one last year and made it a Win7 so it now can *see* that it has 8GB ram.
Microsoft wants you to have a free Windows 10 upgrade, and they really want you to use Windows Update to get it over the Internet. If you have a PC that qualifies for the upgrade, you should do this if possible. It really is the best, fastest, cleanest option for the vast majority of Windows PCs.
But a lot of my readers want traditional installer files, either on a DVD or in an ISO image file that is the equivalent of a DVD. If you are old school, you want an ISO because installing Windows on bare metal is just what one does, period.
...
In the next installment of this series, I will go into more detail about the range of installation options you have, with or without this ISO file.
It is a hot day here today and glad I don't have to look that up (ok it isn't all that hard but the easier the better)
My main problem is my CenturyStink DSL is only sort of fast when it really doesn't matter.
But d/ling drivers and programs run like a dialup especially if you try to d/l 2 things at the same time.
I know it is hard enough d/ling from my Win7 disk and then having to get the now 227 Windows updates with that DSL after install from disk (and all the GeForce drivers and Boinc files take hours if you run vLHC,Atlas, and CMS-dev along with the Einstein GPU's.
Today in my email from Microsoft they sent me (and I'm sure everyone else) an email about the future with Microsoft.
(aka Updates to our terms of use and privacy statement†from Microsoft)
I am a MS member since 1995 and have had my Hotmail account since 1999 so they always send me stuff and I have done alpha work there for many years.......I remember Redmond Wa. when there was no such thing as Microsoft and it was just trees and an old Mom and Pop store.......not like that anymore.
(still haven't found my bleepin' USB stick just to see what size it is)
