I have one Win machine which I just recently built so I am hoping they will provide a tool to migrate from win7 to win10 without the hassle of having to do a virgin install.
It will also require an evaluation of current win7 apps and which ones are/are not compatible with win10.
Something to do.

I'd heard rumors this was going to happen, to come more in line with Apple's offering of full OS versions as free updates. I think it's a great idea, my biggest complaint with 8 was having to swap between the full-screen start menu and apps, and the desktop--at least on non-touchscreen machines. I have 8.1 on my tablet and have no major qualms with it, except that maybe the desktop apps could work a little easier with the touchscreen; many elements are too small to hit reliably with your finger. I've installed the 10 tech preview on a virtual machine, and notice that you now have the option of a Win8-like full screen experience, or a more tradtional desktop experience with a Win7-like start menu but with the added live tiles.
I may consider moving one of my primary machines to the 10 tech preview, now that we know the price for upgrading to the full version will be $0. One thing that remains to be seen, is whether they include Windows Media Center or not; adding that to the tech preview seems to be one thing that "breaks" the OS. Once you install WMC, you get frozen from any further updates, which is not appealing to me since I use WMC a lot on the go to watch TV that I've recorded at home.

That's the plan, whether it works or not remains to be seen. I have been crunching on a Win10 preview machine for almost 2 months now and there are no problems other than a small VNC glitch compared to a regular Win7 machine. Some times I have to click to activate the box, then click on what I want on the Win10 machine, while the Win7 machines just lets me do stuff with much fewer clicks. I'm guessing it's because it is not 'refined' yet, at least I hope so as I use VNC ALOT.
I do not have any touch screen stuff with windows on it and like the way Win10 looks alot like the Win7 desktop. They moved things around again, they always do, and some things I haven't found yet, like the 'my computer' thing, but for the most part it's okay and I have found what I needed. One thing I DID like ALOT was that I had an Nvidia graphics card in the machine when I loaded Win10 and it automatically loaded the latest Nvidia drivers for me, so no extra steps before getting crunching. I usually use a generic pci card but had forgotten to swap them and was very pleasantly surprised. Everything I normally use loaded up with no hitches or glitches and I was crunching pretty quickly. This is a crunching only machine for me, not a daily user machine, so I have not put it thru the daily grind, but so far it works for me.

Can you do me a favor??? In Win 10; try adding a printer, use Windows Update to pick a driver, select HP for the brand, and tell me if there is a 4000, or 4050 series PCL-6 driver available in Win 10. Also, see if the old 4ML is listed. I have a Networked 4ML and a 4000TN printer setup on all five of our machines. Win 7 x64 and XP Pro x64 have no issue with these two printers; however, Win 8 on my uncle's tablet refused to find a proper driver for the 4000TN; and didn't see the 4ML at all. I fear that Win 10 will kill the existing drivers I have for these two printers.

The 4ML is not listed directly, but the 4 itself is listed with both pcl-5 and pcl-6 drivers. The 4050 is listed as is the 4000 'series' pcl-5 and pcl-6 drivers, but the 4000TN is not listed directly either.

Thank you very much. :-) The 4000 series driver is the driver for the 4000TN; if that hadn't been there, the 4050 driver would work. As for the 4ML; the 4 driver may work; but I don't know for sure. (4000, T - Second Tray, N - Networked.)
These printers are OLD now... The 4ML is from 1993, and the 4000TN from 1998. The 4ML is Networked via a Netgear Print Server PS-101 unit connected to the Parallel port on the printer. Both printers are assigned statically.
