Samsung Galaxy Ace -

Had a problem with "Nothing to do waiting for tasks" but found out

Default settings are for "Min storage space is set to 0.1 GB and

Changed it to "0.01" and it downloaded a workunit immediately, now crunching.

The sooner Boinc can run on the SD card rather than the internal memory the better and will cure a lot of peoples frustration

I am going to try moving Boinc to the SD card, but at the moment it is not an option available on my phone even although other apps run on the SD card.

Trying this :)

And now ooh ! I have a task !

Put it on Galaxy S3.

Put it on Galaxy S3. Following day noticed issue where phone would be on charger, however phone battery wouldn't actually gain any charge. Took it for repair, they replaced the battery. Again found issue the following day so I tried removing BOINC. Has charged great ever since!! I vote to rename BOINC App to BOIMD for Break Or Incapacitate Mobile Device App

RE: Well I have committed

Quote:
Well I have committed my only Raspberry Pi to the Einstein effort. Just a few weeks ago E&H did not support the Pi. Now it does. I am waiting on a new over clock kit to arrive (case with fan and 3 heat sinks). I am currently overclocked to a medium setting and the initial temp was about 53C. I added an external USB fan without removing the cases lid and the temp dropped to about 42C. With the arrival of the new kit I will push to the max setting. The Pi will never be a major contributor but every little bit helps. And if the Pi should find something interesting all of us with bigger and better boxes might be just a little bit jealous. :>)

The over clock kit arrived (case with fan and 3 aluminum heat sinks). I installed the heat sinks and placed the Pi board in the new case ( you can see it here (scroll to the bottom of the page). Using the Pi's "raspi-config" app I changed the Pi to run in "Turbo" mode. It runs at a cool 35C with the heat syncs and fan installed.

I wrote a Perl script that runs as a cron job every 5 minutes and emails me if the Pi's temp exceeds an arbitrary value of 50C. This could only happen if the fan on the Pi fails.

For you Pi guys/gals here are some useful commands you might not be familiar with:

/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_volts core
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_volts sdram_c
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_volts sdram_i
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_volts sdram_p
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_temp

I tried it at all battery

I tried it at all battery level settings. In the end, the phone wouldn't charge above 20% except on a rare occasion it could get close to 30% but was usually at < 10% and complaining. Basically it would never handle any BOINC processing AND wouldn't charge. Seemed like a waste of time but more importantly seemed like it might damage the phone. A diagnosis of the battery by a repair person while I was having problems indicated the battery was bad and so it got replaced but still continued to have problems. Have insurance but was worried that the next time I might have to pay myself for repair. Continue to crunch on PC.....

I suspect that your charging rate is less than or equal to the power consumption when processing at full load.

Are you charging via USB and if so are you using a standard or a charging port? The charging USB allow more power draw as does a plug in charger.

You might be able to set CPU usage to a smaller number say 50% and be able to do both.

Good news. My new Samsung

Good news. My new Samsung Galaxy Note II is crunching along fine !

Plus I can also use it as a phone. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

RE: Installed on an old

Quote:
Installed on an old first-generation Galaxy Tab with 1 Gb of memory; the application refused to fetch tasks until I upped the RAM limit to a value above the default of 50%. I then set it back to 50% and it kept computing...

You might have to increse the limit again when fethcing new tasks.

Currently BOINC doesn't allow us on the server side to configure different RAM needs for different application versions for different platform doing the same search, so although the ARM/Android version consumes far less RAM (because of some optimisations) than the Intel CPU versions, we have to stay on the safe side and configure the higher RAM requirement for the Intel app version.

Cheers
