We're discovering all sorts of ways to detect gravity waves, but had no idea a cat scan was among them! O.o

I thought waving a cat over the hard drives containing the data was standard practice. If it meows, gravity wave detected :)

Ronnie Corbett the UK

Ronnie Corbett the UK entertainer died today aged 85. Here are some of his best jokes.

Quote:

All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my right hand.

For some time, my wife's had this ridiculous idea that I'm playing too much golf. Actually, it came to a head at about 11.30 last night. She suddenly shouted at me: "Golf, golf, golf. All you ever think about is bloody golf!". And I'll be honest, it frightened the life out of me. I mean, you don't expect to meet somebody on the 14th green at that time of night.

This is a message for seven honeymoon couples in a hotel in Peebles: Breakfast was served three days ago.

West Mercia police announced tonight that they wish to interview a man wearing high heels and frilly knickers, but the chief constable said they must wear their normal uniforms.

RIP Ronnie.

So after getting frustrated

So after getting frustrated about 10 years ago with SETI@Home, I abandoned it completely.

Today, on a lark, I decided to attach a few machines and see if I could actually make use an Intel GPU or two (I can't get them to work with E@H because they're Windows 10 and there's the whole driver issue, etc.). Also, one Linux machine could use another (low-priority) project just to fall back on in case of outages, etc.

After attaching 4 machines, I go to look on their site and there are only 3 computers showing up. Thinking this is odd, I dig deeper. Where's my home PC and why am I showing a ton of tasks as "abandoned" already?

I finally figure out that the project has assigned 2 computers (both joined about 2 hours apart) as the "same" computer ID and marked all of the tasks that the first one downloaded as "abandoned".

I finally decide (because I've never seen anything like this happen on a BOINC project before) to completely detach the first computer, remove all references to it's SETI account and re-attach it. (What the heck... the project already marked all of it's tasks as "abandoned" anyhow.)

Amazingly, then I had 4 computers show up on my account. The home computer had it's own ID. So far, so good.

Now, I can't make this stuff up...

I re-attached the work computer and it grabbed the ID of the home computer and then marked all of it's tasks "abandoned". O.o

I'm detaching both of them and reminding myself that SETI really doesn't need me *that* badly. :-P

Haha! I of course already did that. I was merely posting here to share one of the most bizarre experiences I've ever had with SETI@Home.

I thought this was the SETI refuge, after all. ;-) After yesterday, I needed some refuge.

I gave the official boinc for

I gave the official boinc for android a try on a mobile and compared to native boinc, well, there is no comparison. So removed boinc popped on native boinc and the problem showed up when trying to merge the hosts.

No dealio, incompatible CPU. Lol :)
