Gentle subscribers; My

Gentle subscribers; My experience with the optimized apps means a 75% improvement in processing speed. I have had to take 20% of my rigs offline because the server still maintains a daily quota of 32 WU's. My crunchers rip through a download of 1 hour work units in 17 minutes each or less, do the math. I am denied new work for X hours and Y days. The project has yet to recognize the improvements and the server is running as if the improved code does not exist.

Ahhh, gentle Tweakster. Forgive my earlier confusion re. personae etc. An abberation of my own multiplicities perhaps..... :-)
Anyhows akosf's optimizations, like manna from heaven, have somewhat blindsided us all. The outstanding improvement in speed has inevitably called into question the server's ability to cope with a roughly 4x throughput that would flow. This was obviously unplanned, but certainly has been recognised and is being dealt with. It will take time. How long I don't know, as I'm not in that loop. My personal bet is 'soon'.
Another consequence has been disparities with respect to platforms, as akosf addressed his area of expertise ie. MS Windows. That is also being addressed. Heck we even have a user wanting to use their X-Box! There's others thinking of using the GPUs in video cards, and yet another considering various household heating elements! What a banner - 'Kettles for E@H' - now that's what I call enthusiastic and motivated lateral thinking! :-)
My personal bet is that the daily WU quota/limit will rise dramatically when the various ducks have been lined up.
The E@H project ( in my limited experience ) has an outstanding record of responsiveness to the user milieu on the client side, and I expect similiar for these issues!
Please bear with us! :-)
Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) Here's a thought. Those running shoes with the twinkly lights the kid's wear. You know, jump up and down to generate and then be seen in the dark. Well bung a processor in the heel, load up an Albert and 'Jog for Einstein'. That would be a real work unit! Kilometers instead of credits? I can imagine the discussions - footfalls per kilometer, stride length, optimised regenerative gadgets in the heel, uphill vs. down, weather, traction, Nike vs. Reebok ...... :-)

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Mike; One of my biggest

Mike; One of my biggest issues was the last server down time. I had a great window at 4pm CST for uploads. With the server outage and daylight saving time,
the upload time on my rigs slid to 7pm. With a 1 and 1/2 hour attend time for my rigs then,(3+hours with the optimized apps due to greater downloads)It is now pushing me past any hope of 8 hours rack time. Some of us work the dawn patrol. It would be helpful if I could specify a window and get some relief from the curse of 32. Thanks for your response.

As regards 'attend time', does that mean you have to be physically present/awake for a given interval in order that the uploads/downloads occur? Do tell.....
Cheers, Mike.

Having a cpu in the shoe (hehe) would be interesting, but generates some problems. First you need a really efficient power generator. And then there's the question of which cpu to use. Running Einstein on a Z80 isn't recommended...

I think he's refering to having to reassign each computer a new ID to force a fresh download.

1 close boinc.
2 delete cleint_state.xml.
3 open boinc.
4 give project url.
5 wait several minutes for the downloads.
6 check length of WUs, if too short, goto 1
7 close boinc
8 replace optimized app in project folder
9 open boinc

Alright, I need big time help

Alright, I need big time help with a step by step for DUMMIES style instructions on optimizing 3 machines for einstein. Please give me the BIG TIME 'for dummies' instructions. :-)

I've tried d/l some of this for this AMD but got the wrong one I think. Here are my machines. If I can get this figured out I'll put it on the 3rd machine and run einstein there also.

AuthenticAMD
AMD Athlon(tm) XP Processor 3000+ Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 5 5 May 2006 10:13:31 UTC
479026 3.94 850.11 GenuineIntel
Intel(r) Celeron(tm) Processor Microsoft Windows Millennium
, (04.90.3000.00)

Also have a 1.7 gig Celeron w/512ram running XP. (this is the 3rd machine)

Thank you in advance. If I can double or triple my crunch time it would be the equivalent of adding 6-12 machines running non optemized Akos apps.

I think you are meaning which of akosf's apps ( versions ) are best for each machine as above? I'm looking here, here and here.

#1 Authentic AMD Athlon XP 3000+ with MS Win XP Home - looks like you have 3DNow and SSE capability thus S41.07 is the go.

#2 Intel(r) Celeron(tm) Processor with MS Windows Millennium - ?

#3 1.7 gig Celeron w/512ram with XP - ?

For the Celeron's I don't think it's clear from your description ( ie. are they 'newer' ? ), so go get CPU-Z here ( upper left under 'download latest version' : CPU-Z 1.33.1 ). This checks out a system for you to determine what's what. Unzip and run 'cpuz.exe' directly from where-ever you downloaded it too ( you don't need to install ). The first property sheet/tab on the left ( 'CPU' ), in the upper box 'Processor' has 'Instructions' at the lower boundary listing the modes ( on mine MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, EM64T ). Note these down for each of your three systems and post back here, please.

Cheers, Mike.

2. this celeron is a 500mhz

2. this celeron is a 500mhz 256 ram

3. winxphome. Same as the amd puter (#1)
