How I'm seeing 5.2.2 so my question is... is it ready to be used by all projects? I had to download P@H on my Toshiba laptop because I still have 4.45 on it and it wouldn't attach on the Dell laptop I had installed the upgrade to. In fact when I installed BOINC on desktop their was no 5.2.1 or 5.2.2 on the list for Windows.
Ricky
Ricky,
Good question, and important. Probably the majority of the Einstein crunchers also crunch for other Boinc projects. I can't say for sure. My quirky memory tells me that I read that some of the projects are not yet ready for the 5 version. I believe I read that in one of the dev group emailings, rather than on one of the messageboards at Boinc. I have most of the emails on the server, so the one referring to project compatibility for version 5 is almost certainly still there, but the problem is none of them are clearly marked as to subject, and they contain a ton of techese to wade through. I'll try to tackle it this evening.
Best I can do for now.

Following projects can run with Boinc v5.2.2:
rosetta@home, BURP, climateprediction, EinsteinAtHome, orbit@home, Predictor@Home, SETI@home, SETI@home Beta Test and PrimeGrid.
Following projects still needs v4.5:
XtremLab, SZTAKI Desktop Grid and LHC@home.

OK, I just checked and find that 5.2.2 is now on the download page. Should i wait for all my WU's for both E@H and S@H are done before upgrading?
Ricky
Is that something the contributor has to do? If so, you'll probably have to explain directly to him what you need and how can get it for you.
Yes, the person that had the problem has to do it.
In essence, the BOINC Client Software writes to log files named something.txt ... I ask for them zipped, using windows compressed folders works, to save space in sending, esp for those on dial up.
As I get time and can, I run them through a GREP tool that "weeds" out messages I already have seen ...
So, then I can zero in on messages I do not have examples for ...
Problem is, I am barely able to make it through doing the forums this last week or so ... :(

Ricky,
That might be the prudent thing to do - but, I didn't wait, and BOINC 5.2.2 seemed to pick up everything where BOINC 4.45 left off. Also, I didn't see any cautions against it.
However, did you see the posts from Paul Buck here? I really didn't understand what error code he is talking about, but, my guess is, he is talking about you. You might want to hold off changing until we can figure out what exactly he wants - just in case it gets "canned" in the changeover.

Yes I saw that and was not sure if he was talking about me. I did post part of what was on my Message from BOINC to the project. But don't remember seeing an error message.
I can wait because this laptop has plenty of WUs to keep it busy. So we'll see if he replies when/if he see this.

Stick,
Paul is talking about an error code that I found in Ricky's errored-out WU, here, and couldn't find a reference to it in the Wiki. In Ricky's Boinc folder will be some files with ".txt" suffix, named stderr...txt and stdout...txt.

WOW!
I didn't look there at all. just looked at the info on my message screen.

Usually, an error like that will also show "traces" in the log files. The log files may, however, only have a simpler error message. THis is why I ask for the error logs. Then, time and health permitting, I add them to the Wiki for those who come after ... :)

Paul,
Thank you for checking up on this. Do you want the Ricky's log files for the Daemon or the GUI or all of them.
I'll make it a little clearer for him next time he checks in exactly what is needed and how to go about zipping and sending them; I think he'd like to learn what went wrong and that he'll do what is needed to help sort it out.
