The following is what I get when clicking on the "Update" button:

10/19/2005 7:41:06 PM|Einstein@Home|Sending scheduler request to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi
10/19/2005 7:41:06 PM|Einstein@Home|Reason: Requested by user
10/19/2005 7:41:06 PM|Einstein@Home|Note: not requesting new work or reporting results
10/19/2005 7:41:11 PM|Einstein@Home|Scheduler request to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi succeeded
10/19/2005 7:41:16 PM|Einstein@Home|Deferring communication with project for 55 seconds

The only thing I see there is:

Adapter Type Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Controller, Intel Corporation compatible

Is ATI an Intel item?

Ricky

Ricky,

No, Intel is the motherboard chipset maker, and your Video adaptor is apparently built-in to the motherboard, and not a discreet card, so we may rule out the ATI/v4.79/screensaver bug.

You a running the Boinc 5.2.1 beta client, and Einstein v4.79 app, under WinXP Pro. and the error code states

"5.2.1
Access is denied. (0x5) - exit code 5 (0x5)

Resuming computation at 1410/117178/119608
Failed to open checkpoint-file for writing. Exiting."

I cannot find a reference to the error code. Need help from one of the heavyweights.

Since you use the Boinc 5.x.x beta, you might try posting the quoted error code, etc on the 5.2.1 thread at Cafe Einstein board, the developers seem to keep an eye on it, and post it to the Boinc dev message board for core client problems at:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_forum.php?id=2

P.S. - you didn't say if your notebook was on battery power or AC power when the WU errored-out.

Regards,

Michael

Ricky, Stick is probably

Ricky,

Stick is probably correct about the long-term debt not allowing you to receive any more Einstein work, if you have other projects (SETI, Climate, etc) attached.

Michael (and Ricky), I beg

Michael (and Ricky),

I beg to differ with you. The Einstein 4.79 graphics bug is more than just an ATI issue. The are other factors as well, such as a BOINC library that is newer (and somewhat different from) when Einstein 4.79 was built. As I posted earlier, my Dell w/Intel Chipset adapter got the graphics bug in back in August. And the Beta app fixed my problems. That's why I think Ricky should try it. There is no sense in trying to run down a possible problem with 4.79 and 5.2.1 anyway. Einstein 4.79 is not being reviewed for possible fixes - it's past history. The Beta is where new fixes will go. That's why I think Ricky needs to change. If there are problems with 5.2.1 and the Beta, there's a shot at getting them fixed.

Ricky,

Actually what we need to know is information about the display adaptor. Also, was your laptop running on battery power, or from the AC line?

Michael

Sorry, I was away from my PC and didn't see this. But both of my Laptops are set to run BOINC only when on AC power.

If you go back to the thread you first posted to a few days ago (Message boards : Problems and Bug Reports : Anyone else not receiving work?), there is a good discussion of this issue in the first 3 or 4 posts.

Ricky,

If you have attached multiple projects to Boinc, then the Boinc Daemon must decide which WU has processing priority, according to the relative resource share that you have assigned each project. If SETI, for instance, had servers down for a few days and your laptop ran out of SETI work, the other projects would receive increased CPU time, but they would then "owe" processing time to SETI. The concept of Debt is explained in Paul Buck's great Boinc-Wiki.

Stick,

Yes, I noticed where you related the problem with your notebook (not an ATI), and said to myself "Oops, yer a ROOKIE, Mike!"

Thanks, I am now in possession of more knowledge than i was an hour ago. :-)
