but now getting started with kubuntu.....I have downloaded the boinc .sh file into documents....now how do I install it??

Just remember one thing, if you click the x to close the box like in Windows, the program actually stops running!! You MUST click the minimize button to not keep the box on the scree AND keep Boinc running. Ubuntu is the easiest Linux I have found, and it is STILL hard for me. I still have 2 pc's running Ubuntu, both are doing fine!!

I had 6.2.14 from Debians testing/unstable release for quite a while now, never gave me trouble. You can safely install it on *buntu as well.

Alternatively you can use the package manager. It's been forever and a day (OK, a year since I used *buntu), but it is in the repositories.
This will set up BOINC to run under its own user account.
Or (don't you just love Linux) you can follow the directions here, which are the ones I used when I started out.
