For this machine http://einsteinathome.org/host/1618644 , 6.07 runs on par with 6.04. With ver 6.05 I noticed about a 20% average improvement in the time taken to complete a task. not so with 6.07.
For instance the time with 6.05 was in the low to mid 30k seconds and with 6.07 it is back up to the mid 40k seconds. I expected it to remain about the same. Any idea what happend??

Are you sure it's 6.07 and not 6.08?
6.08 is supposed to be as fast as 6.04 since it was only intended to fix a bug.
6.07 however should be as fast as 6.05...

Looks to me, from what I checked, he's been using 6.07 for his latest tasks. I don't see any tasks he's done with 6.08. They also look to be in line with some of the latest 6.05 that he's done. He did have some finish faster on 6.05 but also had some take longer. Pretty much the way the tasks are in general, some just take longer than others, even using the same app.
Also the 6.08 app that's being used AFAIK isn't as fast as the 6.04, since it doesn't have even SSE instructions, as Richard pointed out in this message, unless there's a different release out that I'm not aware of.
Edit: Also I'm about 37% into another 6.04 and I'm wondering if another 6.08 test is needed on the ME OS?
I'm kind of confused to what release of the Windows Power app we're (I) should be working with. I've run 6.05 and using 6.07 now with I think the SSE 2 routines. Should I go up to 6.08 or is it only for Win ME?

6.08 is a test build. If you feel like being part of the testing then you should install it. It does work on other Windows OS's. It's not going to crunch the task faster though, actually it will do them slower than stock, but speed wasn't what it was trying to accomplish (see previous message). It was working on compatibility, to allow OS's like 98/ME to be included in the final release.
6.07 is a test build but seems to work well with compatible systems/ OS's and appears to be at least as fast as the 6.05
6.05 is the current released version for compatible systems and OS's.

(1) These are the applications that will get sent out automatically to the vast majority of users - present company excepted, of course. To describe the current app as v6.04 is a Windows-centric point of view (something I'm also frequently guilty of). Einstein usually uses the version number mechanism to distinguish between platforms.
(2) Power user apps are usually stable/tested/optimised, but only suitable for a limited class of CPUs. Just at the moment this is showing the v6.08 app, which I would have thought was better classed as a Beta test for W98/ME: it doesn't have any 'power' features for SSE or SSE2 processors.
(3) I hope everyone here knows what a Beta test is - may be good or may be terrible, use at your own risk, feedback requested. A new full-feature v6.09 package has appeared this morning. [and been announced while I was composing. Thanks, Bernd!]
[And if BM is watching - it seems slightly inconsistent that (1) and (3) are linked from the front page, but (2) isn't. RFC?)
