[Edit] It looks like this App has a serious bug in the checkpointing (see below) Only use it if you are sure of what you are doing, e.g. keep the App in memory all the time through a task. [/Edit]

A new Windows App is available from our Beta Test Page.

As the preparation for S5R5 is taking a bit longer than expected I decided to produce a full-featured S5R4 App with the build process used for the 6.05 "Power" App for you to test. All three executables in thie App package are built using the new gcc build process, which should allow for direct speed comparison with their x87 and SSE counterparts of the standard 6.04 App.

In addition the "crash after done" bug reported e.g. here should be fixed in this App.

The zip archive contains an app_info.xml that should allow to switch tasks in progress by 6.04 and 6.05 App, however this is also subject to the Beta test.

Please test and report.

Installed with no problems, Process manager shows Ver 6.06 _2 running, and part processed task continued ok.

Thanks Bernd

Installation instructions 5.

Installation instructions
5. ......New work should get assigned to the new App einstein_S5R3_4.46.

Shouldn't this be "New work should get assigned to the new App einstein_S5R4_6.06."?

Not trying to nitpick, most beta testers will understand, but just thought it may have the potential to cause confusion for some.

I can't get 6.05 or 6.06 to

I can't get 6.05 or 6.06 to run for me. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong - let the running wu's finish, abort unstarted wu's, suspend everything and close Boinc manager. Extract downloaded .zip, install files to Einstein folder. Re-start Boinc, download new wu's - and they all go back to 6.04. The app_info shows 6.06. Do I need to delete or somehow disable the remaining 6.04 files in the folder, or is there something simple/obvious that I'm missing? BTW, comp is a AMD Phenom 9600BE quad, boinc v6.2.19, winXP

No, you don't need to do anything. Any previously downloaded, or previously running, task will keep the number it was born with: any newly downloaded task will be marked for, and will run with, the new v6.06 application.

Check what application is actually running by using Task Manager: and as Bernd says in the opening post, test and report.

I'll be testing it tonight.

I'll be testing it tonight. It is supposed to be even faster than the last optimized one?

I don't think that's enough! You have to Shut down connected client first.

That seems to have done it - I now see the "using anonymous platform" message, and task manager confirms 6.06 is being used. Thanks Gundolf!
