Here is a general comment to

Here is a general comment to anyone experiencing downloading issues. Browse your state file 'client_state.xml' with something like Windows notepad and notice how all your important files (like app executables, skygrids, data files, etc) have a series of download URLs recorded there for the various mirror sites. There is nothing to stop you noting the details of a particular mirror and then trying to download manually. Stick the URL into your browser and try to fetch the file. That will immediately tell you if it's just a problem with the particular mirror that your BOINC client is trying to use. If you can't get the file from any of the mirrors, the problem is likely at your end somewhere. If you can get the file(s) you need just move it/them into place and restart BOINC.

Please be careful not to make or save any changes to the state file - ie browse only.

Cheers,
Gary.

I have just tried the Alaska

I have just tried the Alaska time zone on one of my two errant boxes and had an immediate successful download of an E@H wu.

I still fail to understand why the UK mirror only works on half my boxes!

With Regards to all

Changing timezones (to PST

Changing timezones (to PST from UTC) has worked for me also. Does this imply that the server for the UTC timezone (Glasgow University ?) is the issue. It may be that the data is split over several filesystems, one of which has a problem. This would explain why some systems can successfully download from this server

Can't seem to get any

Can't seem to get any downloads at all. Have tried all the suggestions to date but only get an error message that says file not found .
Does this 4 times then says the daily quota has been reached.
It has been like this for 4 days now and both SETI and Rosetta are running just fine.
If this continues will have to detach from the project.

Hi!

Thanks for the report, this indeed looks odd. This info was forwarded to the project staff.

Happy crunching

Looks like the problem may be fixed now, I've just started to receive work again on the system I left on UTC.

Nope not fixed here, although

Nope not fixed here, although my problem has changed subtly - I think. I seem to be able to download data files but not executables and PDB files. Or at least thats what it looks like.

All machines now on no new work.

I'm getting[pre] 'Started download of...'[/pre]then[pre] 'Giving up on download of..'[/pre]and[pre] '...file not found'[/pre]including .dat / .pdb / .exe files.

In the BOINC managers Project tab, with Einstein selected, pressing the 'Update' button produces these message lines:

16/02/2008 03:17:48|Einstein@Home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 18393 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
16/02/2008 03:17:53|Einstein@Home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
16/02/2008 03:17:53|Einstein@Home|Message from server: No work sent
16/02/2008 03:17:53|Einstein@Home|Message from server: (reached daily quota of 4 results)

Daily quota? Mind you, it was 8 yesterday! And still no work.

And why, may I ask, does Einstein keep 45MB+ of finished work units in its project folder? Fouteen files named 'h1_0854.00_S5R3' or such at 3MB+ each.

Thank you,

Guy, Plymouth,UK
