Just installed 4.24, but when I look in the boinc manager, the version that's listed as running is 4.02. Is this normal?

Did you install bonic manager as system service?

Nope. And I did follow the instructions. When all results were uploaded and reported, I shut down BOINC, installed the new app, pdb and app_info files in the Einstein directiory. Then I started BOINC, accepted new work, and Einstein 4.02 is running. It still is, I might add...

Everything is fine! When you next dowload new WU's you will see that in BOINC they are listed as 4.24 WU's, and they will run with the new app.

I installed the 4.24 app seven days ago, and all the WU's I get are crunched by 4.02.

So, I have not really an idea, it should work ...

I did it yesterday on one of my boxes, cc 5.4.9 on Windows XP Prof, it worked as it should.

As long, as the CoreClient doesn't say after startup "Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform", something is definitly wrong.

Here a list of my message-tab when the client started:

2006-08-10 22:54:31 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.4.9 for windows_intelx86
2006-08-10 22:54:31 [---] libcurl/7.15.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8a zlib/1.2.3

1) Did you copy app_info too?
2) If yes, v.4.24 will start working after you finish all units that you downloaded before version change.

Since it doesn't seem to have taken properly, two things you ought to check:

1) Did you unzip the files you downloaded into the correct folder?
For a default installation, that would be
C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\einstein.phys.uwm.edu
[check with Windows Explorer or similar that all three files are there]

2) Did you completely stop BOINC and restart it after installing the files? Use File|Exit if BOINC is installed as a user program, restart the service using Administrative tools|Services if you installed as a service.

I had the same problem on 1 window machine. I solved it with a cold reboot.
Even deleting the old app wasn't sufficient, windows had saved the old app somewhere and still wasn't using it. So, I stoppend BOINC, deleted the old app, did a cold reboot and finaly i was crunching with the 4.24 app.

Never had this problem under Linux thus.

A new Beta Test App is available on our usual Beta Test Page.

It features a codebase similar to the Linux 4.17 Beta Test App, with hand-coded optimized assembler calculation from Akos (and me).

See how much this speeds up things in general.

I haven't seen a single invalid result from the Linux Apps with the same analysis code, so I'm pretty sure this App won't cause any problems. Please report invalid results ASAP.

Happy crunching!

BM

Well, see fo yourself. I get validate errors like there is no tomorrow. Please check and see if the source of the problems comes from the beta app. Thanks Bernd. Cheers
