Thanks, MetalWarrior. I think until the dust settles I'm going to stick with S5T0709. It's given me a 27% boost, it's SSE3-specific so it works well with my processor, my results are validating, and I haven't trashed any workunits with it. At some point I'll update again, but I don't think I want to press my luck any further for right now. I like to take things slow and methodical :)
Dig
Dig, at this point I have to agree with you. result using S5T0709 on my Pent 4, 2.8GHz SSE3 no Ht is ~ 30% faster and that relates to 4 hours saved on each. Stan
And maybe 35-40% on long units with S5T0712- ill do the math
[EDIT]
Yep about 36%. Put in perspective;
Standard: 11:30+
S5T0712: 7:30
Pepper..it is just too late in the day for me to do any more with it and I am pleased with my 4 hour savings..I am sure that things will continue to develop but I have to call it a day....
Thanks Matt, although I'm not sure if it properly patched it...is there an easy way to tell?
prior to the result being reported...I don't know.....afterwords you can look in the stderr out info on the result id info page to see what was actually ran.....
the SSE-0007 STABLE tells me I used the S5S0007 patch......
I too am "hoping" the above patching procedure worked, I did see a Status line in the patch program, but the window shut down after like half a second or something......just got a fleeting glimpse......
I have about 2.5 hours left on the app I manually patched with 0711...I'll have to wait and see to make sure it worked though.
Thanks Matt, although I'm not sure if it properly patched it...is there an easy way to tell?
A quick way without having to start up boinc first is to right click the app after attempting to patch and select properties. It should have a modified date and time. Check the time against your start bar clock or when you thought you patched it.
It must be the patch, currently, it looks like its sped up the result completion time, from 17hrs 30 mins to around 15hrs 40mins...now whether or not it will be valid remains the question...guess I'll find out tomorrow!

Hmmm, it was last modified 5 days ago. Oops, maybe I didn't patch it properly, at any rate I'll let that one run its course and try again before the next WU starts up. Or rather just empty my cache and then patch it and then get new WUs.
This app_info file works as advertized. Any 4.02 WU's in cache are finished up with the 4.02 app. New WU's come in as 4.10 WU's. Just make sure you have both apps in your Einstein folder (and both PDB's).
Good job Uli!

You should use this app_info.xml. It will crunch 4.02 wu's with the unpatched 4.02 application and the newly downloaded 4.10 wu's with the patched 4.10 application.
