It seems to me the issue here

It seems to me the issue here is fixing the server to accomodate loyal participants running the optimized apps. What's all this whining about academic protocol? We don't care about lost book bags, student union fees, or end of semester hall duty. I have a utility bill to pay and it feels better when my rigs are working than when they are idle.

Argh, I don't believe it. Reached daily quorum on a PentiumIII 866. Why do they make the WUs so short? 38:XX minutes/WU.

Same here with a Barton 2800+ and short wus.

First let me say I agree to

First let me say I agree to an extent what you say about no communication lately. But it seems that a lot of people have short memories. Bruce I think posted that he was worried that increasing the quota would cripple the servers. And I believe that because we had more problems with the servers the last couple months than we had the previous 12 months. He also said that they are trying to get more hardware but that means convincing those holding the purse strings to allow the purchase. So really those questions/concerns about quota have not gone unanswered. They just have not bothered to repeat those answers probably because that would be redundent. Most people will feel that redundancy is a waste of time, I know I do. So in the mean time I crunch and hope that they are able to overcome this situation.

I have rig with a set of WU's

I have rig with a set of WU's that includes a sequence of 39 consecutive 1 hour 15 minute specials. Running the optimized apps, what are my odds of running dry? The server IS the problem. There seems to be evidence that when this project is challenged with fast boxes and optimized code, it craps and runs behind some "safety code". Remember, waiting for work for 4 hours means the project is shutting down 16% of its potential. Is the contractor on this job even aware of shortcomings? Thanks Bruce.

Steve: It would take a minute

Steve:
It would take a minute to say 'sorry folks we are jammed up and we can't justify making changes this late in the S4 run'.
I am dissing your post, but it is interpretive because of the lack of response from the devs. It is that lack of consderation that has moved me to join the curse of 32 and nothing else.

Just a comment to revive this

Just a comment to revive this topic, I am shutting down all my rigs. Hauling A__ for this project, I was rewarded with frustration and server quotas that denied my ability to perform. I applaud the science, I regret the application. Being ranked at number seven, running the optimized apps, running my farm from my residence, it appears that I expected too much. I will run my rigs dry and detach. I have an opty 146 I want to challenge. Distributed computing has great potential, assuming the project admins have the right stuff to address their performance.

Best Regards to you all-tweakster

Follow this link and click on View Computers.

If there are funds to purchase over 600 HUNDRED of those systems, then there should be funds to upgrade the servers.

Pending credits are getting

Pending credits are getting out of hand, with a lot of hosts (not all of them with unoptimised apps) taking well over a week to return work and quite a few not returning work by the deadline at all.

Given we have plenty of computing power available, why not set the initial replication to 4, and if need be increase the daily quota to something like 40 (to compensate for the extra result needed)?

More chance of a quorum being formed in a few days that way. Less need to re-issue work when one of the hosts doesn't return the work (as a quorum will likely have been formed by the other three).

why not set the initial replication to 4,

The trouble with that is then you can end up with crucnhers wasting time on WUs which have already had a quorum of results. There's no science rush to finish this project (unlike Rosetta, we're not going to save any extra lives); so why not make the most efficient use of computing resources, even though the final results might be slightly delayed?
