D40 - 3DNow! optimised windows executable

Comment: 3DNow! supported on these cpus:
K6-2,K6-III,Athlon,Duron,AthlonXP,Sempron,Athlon64,C3,Samuel-II,Ezra,Nehemiah,Winchip2

First result with D40 was slightly faster then S39L on my Sempron 3000+.

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

D40 Observation Thread

on my AthlonXP 2600+:

S39L --> D40 = 4900 sec --> 4139 sec per WU

Runs like hell, I wonder

(a) how much more is possible at all
(b) how fast any win app could run if someone made efforts to optimize code for certain CPU types.

Thanks, Akos ;)

WOW! One Unit so far, validated and got credit.
AMD Thunderbird 1.2G (r1_1224.5) C40 vs D40
9,226.00 (avg) vs. 6,609.37 = 0.72!

Nice! :-)

Same for my AMD 3500+! :)

I am starting to feel badly for those chrunchers who use the official release, because I see more and more 2 out of the 3 validated results using an optimized client. So the official release chrunchers are (unfairly) losing a lot of legitimate credit. Let's hope E@h releases an official optimized version soon.

For those on Windows, if you wish to make fair claims compared to other users, then about 30 results after installing trux's calibrating client you'll be doing so. There is a whole Einstein Cruncher's thread on other clients here

My A64 is showing negligable

My A64 is showing negligable gains on small WUs with D40 after adjusting for the speedup from 2.4 to 2.6gig that my new WC system's gotten me.

My athlon classic's showing a major gain though. From 125-135m with C36, to93m on the first pure C40 done. >25% gain. :)

My Athlon XP 3200+ is seeing

My Athlon XP 3200+ is seeing an improvement of about 9 minutes going from S39L to D40. It's incredible. Because of akosf's great work, I've switched both of my machines over to Einstein.

Well done akosf!

So it looks like 3DNOW!

So it looks like 3DNOW! optimizations are better than SSE optimizations? Therefore anyone with the choice should go with D40?

Here are my

Here are my results:

[pre]Athlon T-Bird: -28% !

Athlon XP: -4.7%[/pre]

As always, excellent work!

Does a 3DNow!+ and/or a SSE3 optimization make sense? I just ask, in case you are bored and don't know what to do next time. ;-)

I ask myself anyway, how you find the free time beside your job, to do so much work for all these DC projects.

Michael
