My apologies to Rainer1966 who hasn't got credit granted for WU 3304823 for a month now. I'm one of those who is delaying the grant for this particular WU because I missed the deadline. I attached my internet router, a Cyrix 6x86 P166+ (133 MHz) to Einstein@home, got one of the longer running Einstein results, and the estimated completion time is currently February 9th. Unfortunately, I'm not the only slow cruncher who got this result, so Rainer1966 has still to wait for his credit being granted.
I'm going to complete the computation of this result, no matter what, even if I will get zero credit granted for it. After completion, I will detach this computer from E@H, as it was an interesting experiment. Again, I'm sorry that this caused long periods of pending credit for others.

Your slowest box is still twice as fast as Marck's router box is on paper. And either the benchmark's off a decent ammount on one of your machines, or doing router work's seriously taxing his relic because your p1's taking 5 days/wu, and his is 15 days out without a result.

I mean, you can pick up SOMETHING on the cheap that will beat 133.
5 days? Come on now....something that slow is probably not worth the electricity to run it. (IMHO)

If it does it's primary job, why spend money on a replacement. And since it's running anyway, why not try and get something useful out of it's idle time. Home network router's a very low end job, with a sufficiently stripped down *nix even a 486 can do the job.
Granted, Marck needs to find a project with smaller WUs for his router, but until it dies why should he spend the money/time/effort to setup a replacement?

Hey, sorry, didn't mean to offend. I have some older hardware myself. a 133 that pulled my (insert noun) out of the fire in the days when I needed something and had nothing else. Darn thing has been so good to me that I just can't part with it. I have since Overdriven it to a smokin 200 MHZ and finally packed it with 96 Meg of mem. (what a screamer) Nowadays my router has more power than my first 5 computers combined. The point is...if you are going to use it, kick it up a notch. hardware and old memory is cheap. (IMHO)

Same here. When my athlon1400 died I ordered my 3800x2 using a p1-233. Doing anything remotely useful on it's doomed by the fact that its mobo won't take more than 64meg of ram. Shopping on newegg for parts was done with a book in hand, reading a page between the diskthrash that acompanied each load. The 1400's just gone back into service at 1.5gig today (chip's good for at least 1540, but with a much louder fan). Mobo won't let me set the multiplier (dunno if semi defective, or bad manual's too blame) so I'm running the ram at 144-cas2 instead of at or above the rated 166 cas2.5. The Cpu is unlocked so it's not that to blame.

Well, this is an upgraded box already. I used to run a Pentium-75 with 48 MB RAM as a router which processed a WU for SETI@home classic every 4 days. ;-) Maybe I'll try SETI@home with its shorter WUs on this box, but with the new enhanced SETI application to be introduced, there will be a great range of WU processing times, too.
By the way, even in their heyday, Cyrix and the early AMD processors were notorious for their poor floating point performance. But maybe there is a BOINC project out there that can make use out of my poor little worker anyway. :-)
Hey, Wurgl, I just realized that you joined E@H the same day as I. Although I can't really compete with you, I'm trying hard to make it into the top 200 of the Class of 2005-02-11. :-)

Maybe you should take a look at SIMAP. My P233 does a result in 6-7H. They got a 10-day deadline. The downside is that it is a bit heavy on the bandwidth.
Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.
