Thank you both for your

Thank you both for your replies.

I've run a few workunits hyper threaded and not, and while not hyper threading is faster, more workunits can be completed if I do hyper threading.

For instance, I found roughly for one of the machines that while not hyper threading, each of the Gamma Ray Pulsar Search #5 units took about 6 hours, but when I was hyper threading, they took 8 hours, but I was able to run 8 units hyper threading, while only 4 without.

Based on this, I think I'm going to continue hyper threading to maximize throughput, unless my observations are flawed.

Hi all,    just

Hi all,

just installed boinc on couple of xeon machines.
One question, is it possible (like in primegrid) to have more than one cores crunching on same work unit?
got 48 cores and would like to assign at least 2-4 for single task. Now completing each task will take 30-40 hours.

Basically it is possible, but there is no point as the application can use only one CPU core for the task.

I am a Ryzen Fan.

But I don't wish Intel's current CPU instability/burn out problems on anybody. Intel needs to continue to be a robust PC CPU competitor in order for consumers, gamers, prosumers to have choices.

I am also a Ryzen fan, price point for me. I also think intel is going to have to give a discount on future Intel cpu purchases for people that return their damaged Intel cpu's so the customers return/stay/move from other cpu makers for their future pc purchases. If Intel leaves them out in the cold then I can see people/companies looking really hard at what they can get elsewhere. No one wants to buy a pc with a cpu that can't be run they want to for as long as they want to, companies, and individuals, can't afford to be replacing their pc's because the cpu manufacturer made an error and now the thing can't be run they want it to be run.

ANDDDD we are back (well,

ANDDDD we are back (well, getting everything back up and running). Glad to be back crunching.

Not worth trying- we have Xeons running work and unless the task is purposefully compiled for multiple cores/threads, it is not worth it.

We are going to have a new Intel CPU up soon (14th gen) and are going to push it hard. I am REALLY curious to see how it holds up, especially being pushed continually.

Glad to see everyone again!

have you seen the recent news?

very high failure rate on Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs. hardware issue. no real solution.

Yep, it was purchased 5

Yep, it was purchased 5 months ago before any of this was really known (by the public, I should specify...). I do not have high hopes, but we will be able to report what we see happens over time here.
