Boy, am I relieved. It's about 84F supposed to get to 86F with 50 percent humidity.
Much lower heat Index plus no heat dome. It is actually cooling down overnight.
And the 10 day Forecast is apparently no heat dome like stuff.
Before I get carried away I need to remember, August is coming.
Mine was similar everyone I talked to today was shocked that the weather was as moderate as it is today, though like you said August is coming!!
According to my ComEd records, it would appear that July is hotter than August, but I too think of August as the hottest month.
Who knows...? We'll just have to wait-n-see...
Take a look at these two graphs:
I would guess that the hottest month of the year is July for the past 84 years according to the 1st graph.
The 2nd graph shows that there is (are?) significant changes in the 'global warming' period from 1991-2020 over the average ambient temperatures. If you can believe these graphs, the temperatures are rising... and fast! And around the south pole - Antarctica - temperature is rising faster than the rest of the world's temp, meaning that it is contributing to rising sea levels also.
The 10 day Forecast includes at least 3 100F days coming up. I believe my computers will be resting those days.

The house interior was warm enough in the afternoon I did shut down my BOINC hobby.
Fired them up again about 10 pm CDT.
Probably doing that again today.

I think it's time we had a GOOD post about the weather.
On August 6th, in Rockford, IL, U.S.A., as of 1:30 PM today it was 69॰F/20.6॰C, and it is predicted to go up to an absolutely fabulous 73॰F/22.8॰C at 4:00 PM for the high today. The remainder of the week though next Monday, will continue to be in the 71॰-78॰F range.
I don't usually like to use the long range forecasts much, but the continued outlook looks even better for august, with only one day reaching 91॰F for the rest of the month, and the remaining being in the 80's F with only 2 additional days in the 70's F.
Not bad for August, eh? Of course, the long range forecast must be taken with a grain of salt.

I wonder if we could get some of that 1' of rain moved into drought stricken areas like South West Kansas and other parts of the high plains?

You wouldn't be predisposed to living a long and healthy life, would you? LOL
But I'd definitely be turning my computers into a bed for a nap if it were over 100F for several days.

Contact NOAA at https://www.noaa.gov/contact-us and have them "seed" that area's clouds, assuming that area has any.
