After almost five months of development and private testing, Einstein@Home will begin public testing and distribution of a new search application called "Albert". This is an improved and more sensitive version of the previous search code. Initially we will send out only a few hundred workunits for this new search, but if these are successful, we will begin broader distribution of these new workunits over the coming few days. If unexpected problems arise, please be patient, and look in the Problems and Bug Reports message board for additional information.
How long will it take to crunch trough this new WUs?

IIRC, the workunits take about the same amount of time to process. The difference is they cover a longer time base, but a smaller frequency range. The longer time base gives the increased sensitivity, and the smaller frequency range per WU keeps the processing time constant.

How do you tell if you have an "Albert" wu? Is there a new E@H client for "Albert", the statement "...improved and more sensitive version of the previous search code..." seems to imply a new client?

Yes, it is. The observable difference is in the application, and then there is the transparent difference in the slicing of the data. If you look at the Einstein@Home Applications you will see that the Improved all-sky pulsar search was uploaded today.

BTW: The WUs differ a bit in length depending on the frequency. The longer ones should take about the same time than the previous ones, but at lower frequencies we have some that take down to 1/4 of the time.

I don't think you can compare them like that.
In here Bruce Allen says in the first post"- The new WU have different execution times, typically ranging from about 25% to 100% the previous execution times"
