Random question.   I

Random question.

I have an RTX 3090 running just MeerKat BRP7 tasks, just one at a time.

It runs 0.2 CPUs + 1 NVIDIA GPU.

Is there a way to set it to 1 CPU/1GPU or does that even matter?

Keith Myers and Ian&SteveC have repeatedly pounded it into my head that the entry in the app_config.xml file for "amount of CPU" refers to the minimum that the BoincMgr will require to run a GPU task.  It will allocate more CPU resource if it needs it.

I believe the "default" for the CPU is 0.9

I am running 0.1 on this system because I have a really dinky CPU (2 cores, no hyper-threading) and 4 GPU's..

<app_config>
<app>
<name>einsteinbinary_BRP7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>einstein_O3AS</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

On a Windows system you have to make the folder called "ProgramData" visible and navigate to the Boinc folder.  Under the project folder you will see the Einstein at home project.  The "app_config.xml" file goes in there.

Ian&SteveC,

The techpowerup website says this is a single slot card. Does that mean you can shoehorn 7 onto an Epycd8 motherboard and not have them overheat?

Thank you.

Yes they are single

Yes they are single slot.
Yes you could put 7 all next to each other.

YES they WILL overheat if you do that. At least without a server chassis with massive airflow/pressure to force air through them.

I was running 4 of them but all spaced one slot apart from each other for airflow. And temps still weren’t great. I’m replacing them all with Titan Vs

Just curious: why?

Ideas are not fixed, nor should they be; we live in model-dependent reality.

Just curious: why?

because the Titan Vs are about 35% faster, cost roughly the same on the second hand market, and all while using even less power.

on BRP7, my titan Vs are only using about 120W, vs the full 140W from the A4000.
