Well, the xml file had a syntax error and just wiped 1,000 tasks from my client. That's awesome.

A THOUSAND tasks what are your cache settings set at? And do you have times where your internet sd down or do you have 'always on' internet. 'A;ways on' internet means you can have a smaller cache size as everytime Boinc returns a task it will get a new one to replace it unless you already have enough.

My settings were to store 10 days of work, 10 additional days of work, each task took about 5-6 minutes and I just let it do its thing.

Always connected to the net.

Set it down to 0.1 days of work with 0.1 days of additional work.

Please.

I didn't get a syntax error

I didn't get a syntax error as copied from the browser, unless there's something hiding in the whitespace then ?

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

I usually use this to check my *.xml files.  It does tell you where your errors are, if you have any.

I changed the amount of stored work last night to 0.1. I'm just sad about losing all those juicy future RAC points.

Don't worry they just load like 15 years of O3AS cpu tasks, you have PLETY of time to make them up based on your picture

It does look like it, as you said at least it's tasks to crunch, new or recycled tasks they are all tasks.

Random question.

I have an RTX 3090 running just MeerKat BRP7 tasks, just one at a time.

It runs 0.2 CPUs + 1 NVIDIA GPU.

Is there a way to set it to 1 CPU/1GPU or does that even matter?

Keith Myers and Ian&SteveC have repeatedly pounded it into my head that the entry in the app_config.xml file for "amount of CPU" refers to the minimum that the BoincMgr will require to run a GPU task.  It will allocate more CPU resource if it needs it.

I believe the "default" for the CPU is 0.9

I am running 0.1 on this system because I have a really dinky CPU (2 cores, no hyper-threading) and 4 GPU's..

<app_config>
<app>
<name>einsteinbinary_BRP7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>einstein_O3AS</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

On a Windows system you have to make the folder called "ProgramData" visible and navigate to the Boinc folder.  Under the project folder you will see the Einstein at home project.  The "app_config.xml" file goes in there.

Why not upgrade the G3930 to some other Kaby lake proc with 4 cores? ????‍♂️

  1. I haven't decided if I want to keep it.
  2. It runs brp7/meerKat tasks just fine on all four GPUs.
  3. If I decide I am keeping it. And that I want to run All-Sky tasks I certainly will need a 4c/8t CPU.

The major advantage of the motherboard is I don't have to fiddle with mining expansion kits or ribbon cables. It has 8 full length slots. I have struggled getting either to work reliability.

The major disadvantages are two fold.

  1. The slots are electronically 1X, Gen 1.
  2. The highest end CPU you can install is 4c/8t.

The minimum CPU I prefer is 8c/16t.

There are a few Boinc projects that require much higher bandwidth. For example gpugrid.

But e@h does not.
