T'was sometime in the dark AM when the explosions died down enough to allow sleep. I know they were black powder explosions. Today air quality hazardous from all the powder smoke.

T'was not Thor.
The neighborhood right behind me did ALOT of that, big thunderous BOOOMS like 10 in a row sometimes, the neighbors dogs were not happy campers.

You're talking about some fireworks at July 4th?
(I know how the French celebrate July 14th, nothing about Americans).
...maybe some joke about Thunder&Thor...? Doesn't matter...
We had a remarkable heavy storm yesterday above the North Sea (12 Bft, 130..160 km/h, 80...100 mph). These are common in winter, not summer. They canceled some ferries to the Frisian Islands. Far from the sea where I live it was just windy. It's sunny all day, no clouds until next week. Today 24°C (75F), then up to 32°C (75-90F). No thunderstorms. These have become weaker and rare over past (dry) years. Perfect summer so far; no hot days.

Yes I was talking about fireworks and JUly 4th.
It's been in the low 90's and upper 80's here for the past few weeks and will be similar for the rest of the Summer for me. We will get a few days with the actual temps being 100F+ but those days aren't a regular thing here. Our weather has been coming from the West towards the East so off the large expanse of the US towards me on the East Coast meaning it has LOTS of time to warm up before it comes to the Coast and hits the cooler air and goes BOOM with thunderstorms.
Now I have sheets of rain, rattling roof (mobile home).
Joy. Location is North East Kansas, USA.

I was wondering about you and the rain/thunderstorms. I saw that on my weather app. Hope you're doing okay!
It was noisy and wet but didn't get 80 mph wind gusts.

I am currently a bit East of you in middle Illinois and we didn't get a drop of rain but it is putting on a light show in the distance, don't know if it's East or West though.
