I just saw on my news feed that the Midwest as well as California might be subject to "rolling blackouts" this summer.
Oh, no. That will impact my boinc production:)

QUICK put solar on the roof and you can tell the blackouts to take a hike!!
I don't own the land. Just the house. I would have to pay retail.

If you believe 'the salespeople' it's nearly free to put solar panels on your roof these days!!
Of course I don't believe a word of it, my neighbor checked it out a couple years ago before the recent tax credits kicked in, and said the panels are essentially free but what they do is get you to pay the amount you pay for electricity right now to the Solar Panel Company and then in 20 years you won them. Soooo FREE!!! BUT what they don't tell you is that in 20 years your panels will need replacing and you will need to spend the money all over again, and on top of that YOU are 20 years older and less likely to have the disposable income to do it.
On top of that if you live in an HOA controlled neighborhood they could have a say so on what kind, how many and where you can put them. Mine says 'the panels can't be easily visible from the street' but the new lady in charge says if she can see your house from the next street over you can't put them on the back or sides of your home either. A couple of people are contacting Attorneys because most on-line stuff says 'visible from the street' means the FRONT of the house not the back or sides. We will see how it goes as down here at the beach in North Carolina as there is ALOT of sun on our roofs!!!
We have the perfect late spring weather here in Brandenburg, Eastern Germany, 22°C/72F, sun, no clouds anywhere, and a light breeze. So what do you suppose I'm doing this afternoon? Well, I'm going to look through my son's homework, English homework. He don't like English homework. 'Why do I have to learn English?' 'It's so strange...' 'No son, compared to Russian and French or even German, I can tell you: English is simple'. So we searched for irregular verbs in a matrix and had some fill-in-the-blanks where you have to decide if the simple past or past progressive tense is required. The difficult thing with 'past progressive' for Germans is, whe don't have it in German. So you have to carefully analyze the sentence, look for words like 'while' or 'when', think about the occuring verb to decide if there was an ongoing activity in the past or not... My son is now in the 6th grade. When I was this old, I learned Russian at school in the 2nd year and I knew two English words then: 'yes' and 'no' and I never met an English (or Russian*) speaking native until I left high school. How times change... But tomorrow we definitely will go for a long bike ride in the countryside.
* You didn't talk to (armed) Soviet conscripts then, who occasionally hung around at crossroads in my hometown for hours or even a day before a military column passed there, whom they were supposed to indicate directions and to be picked up again.
(Approx 1:00 am) I've been getting a bunch of severe weather and tornado alerts coming up on my phone for the last half hour or so. Weather radar indicates a massive line of thunderstorms due west of here headed straight East. Not particularly worried because the geography in this area causes most tornadoes to track around us instead of into town. If I disappear, then I guess you'll know what happened.
[EDIT]
According to the weather radar, the severe part of the line of thunderstorms has now gone past. Sorry, but I'm still here. ;)
[UPDATE]
Two LARGE limbs from the tree in the back yard were blown down. They didn't hit any thing.

I wish!!! My forecast for the upcoming week is in the low to mid 80's for highs and about 70 for the lows, with a standard chance of an afternoon thunderstorm but nothing special.
It is staying wet enough I am having to mow my lawn way to often.
