The "Kirchentag" is the bi-annual convention of the protestant churches and all the 'progressive elements' of society (opposed to the ossified, everything-preserving conservatives) in an almost post-religious society. So it's more of a political event and could also be combined with the Green's party convention (which leaders are present). I'd say 95% of these churchgoers haven't attended any church in the last year. So it's more of an event than a religious service. But what do I know about it; grown up without God in an urban, socialist society...
