For us down here in Florida south of Canaveral this storm turned out to be a non event. It moved further off the coast reducing wind and rain. We were lucky. Not all storms do this. I will put out stuff tomorrow and remove panels over the doors. Right now I have only one way out and that is the garage door. This could really present a problem in the event of a house fire. Moving on.
We don't do that here, boarding up the doors if we are in the place, but some people do board up their windows, now rental homes do get the full boarding up process, it helps keep people out too. I have some of those metal burgler bars that go from the door handle to the floor and we will put those in place when we go to bed and use the hurricane door on the garage door. It's a metal box frame that goes in the center of the garage door and has a post on the bottom that goes in a hole in the concrete and then a bracket at the top it clips into that's attatched to the wooden frame above the door and then pins for each door panel to keep it from blowing in or being sucked out into the driveway.
I'm hoping by this time Tuesday it's a non event for us too!!! Glad you are safe!!

As hoped it was a non event for us, we didn't even lose power even though it landed in my town of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and moved on. It had 85 mph winds so no big deal for all the newer homes, which mine is, but the 'Island' ones did have some sand and water damage. They also have 5 house fires, all rentals with no one there, that they think was caused by poor maintenance problems. It's brigh and sunny and in the low 90's F today so all is good!!
Laura really did a job on Louisiana and Texas, but there are now 4 potential threats in various locations all stacked up. One is going to miss the US the second is too early to tell and the 3rd and 4th are way to far away to predict a threat to the US. And this is not yet the busy "time of the year". Be watching the local 2200 news for the latest.

I KNOW...it's not fun sitting on the target watching someone reload another batch of arrows!!! Hopefully though, not for them of course, the storms will continue to stay on the Southerly tracks and go thru the Gulf of Mexico and into the Pacific Ocean instead of heading up closer to Florida and the East Coast!!!
Someone, ie Darpa, needs to do some research into how to change their tracks or even get rid of them when they are over the open ocean so these things are no longer a problem. My idea has always been to drop a bomb down it's throat and blow out it's walls, but I guess it could always rebuild it. Maybe a plane load of dry-ice?

Agreed NO NUKES for hurricanes etc, but I know they have bombs that create ALOT of pressure that could be used to blow out an eye wall, on 2 or 3 or more sides of the thing. The problem is I personally have no clue what that does to the overall weather system that created the hurricane etc in the first place and if would just reform an hour later. I'm sure some weather expert knows of some research at least written up with an idea but I don't. That's why I suggested Darpa as they often bring in various experts who think outside the box to find solutions, they also have the computing power, as does Boinc if anyone could program it. Maybe CPDN could do it at some point to at least prove or disprove the viability of it, and then let the experts figure out how to actually do it if it's a viable option. ie is it better to drop 30 explosives at varying altitudes and locations all the way around to blow out the whole wall at multiple hieghts or is 1 or 2 huge explosions better? The variables could preclude doing it after a certain windspeed or even waiting for it to get to a certain windspeed gives the best results. All over the World whatever you call them the things are very dangerous and they destroys lives and livelihoods!!
