hmm. I'm kind of at a loss now. I can't explain why it's not working. maybe something different in how your system's directories are structured? I can only speculate.
how did you install BOINC? did you use the gianfranco PPA? or some other install?
I am thinking the same thing- I am depleting WCG tasks right now and then am going to completely remove BOINC and all directories. I might have more luck. I did have some trouble getting BOINC working originally, so I want to start from scratch.
try our standalone "all-in-one" install. you don't really need to "install" BOINC at all, and it's all contained in it's own folder wherever you want to put it. I just put it in the home directory. other users like to put it on their desktop.
just make sure you run the 'boinc' and 'boincmgr' executables on ldd like you did before to check for missing dependencies. if anything says missing or not found post the output here and I can probably figure out which package you need to install.
this is what I use. i pre-packaged the special einstein app in it so all you should need to do after satisfying dependencies is double click on the 'boincmgr' file to open BOINC Manager, which will kick off the boinc client in the background and attach to it. then you can attach your projects. only attach einstein first to test if it's working.
it should work for you. just extract the archive (unzip it) and put the BOINC folder wherever you like on your desktop or home folder. download the archive directly to the system, or move the archive compressed. only unzip it on the target system (you will mess up permissions if you move the extracted archive across drives).
oh one more thing. if you decide to use my standalone BOINC, it does not create any kind of system service or autorun on boot like the repository version do. you will need to manually launch it every time you reboot the system.
