Drivers question: I'm upgrading from a 1660 ti to a 4070 ti. Is there a recommended Ubuntu driver for this generation? I tend to find a driver that works, and stay put, unless there's a need to upgrade. Running Ubuntu with the special sauce. On the 1660ti, the 470 driver works just fine; is that the case for the 4070 ti, or does the new arch need a newer driver to take advantage of all the capability? Any recommended, or any to avoid?
I can't prove it but I strongly suspect you will be fine.
If you decide to upgrade pick the "proprietary" version of the 525.x driver. The "open source" version of the 525 gave another user here trouble.

Thanks, Tom. I'm using the drivers from the graphics-drivers ppa, I believe those are the proprietary ones?
Not sure. When you use the Ubuntu gui there are two of different ones. One says open. One says proprietary.

The graphics-drivers PPA compiles directly from official Nvidia sources.
The Software Updates GUI app has both sources, one from the Nvidia proprietary branches and one developed by the Ubuntu maintainer devs and is using the open source branch that Nvidia has recently been publishing.
Been lots of reports of bugs and problems using the open source drivers.
Thanks. I saw your post earlier but failed to acknowledge; my bad. I'll go ahead and update since 525 is supposedly compatible with the 1660 ti I'm running now.

Only twice have I pulled NV drivers; when I first installed Ubuntu, and once later to go to 470 (I think it was at 440 or some such initially).
From a terminal window, I used the "sudo apt install nvidia-driver-470" command.
Will yell for help when the card comes if all is not rainbows and unicorns.

you need 525 drivers. the 4070Ti did not exist when 470 was released.
