And Radeon VII are still some of the popular Amd video cards in the top 50.

dont do it. unless you want a repeat of all the driver issues you had last time you tried to go down the AMD/Linux path.

the radeon VII was only good for it's FP64/$ mark they only seemed good here at einstein for a while because the nvidia application was essentially defective and unintentionally limited performance. there's no good reason to get a Radeon VII anymore. they're old, poorly supported, buggy, and if one dies on you you'll have to eat the cost.

A P100 can be had for cheaper and has better FP64 performance (milkyway/asteroids), and nvidia drivers are much more stable and easier to work with with older products. or spend twice the price and get a Titan V at twice FP64 the performance.

for FP32 workloads that don't rely too much on FP64, more modern nvidia cards will be best.

Now if could find a couple more rtx 3080 ti's for $300 (yes, they do have to be working).

you could get an RTX 3060 for about 300. Maybe a 3060Ti. With Petris v1.0 app they will be about the same performance as a RVII.

Is that Petri's app for the g[u users group or the one for Einstein?

Apparently the rtx 2080

Apparently the rtx 2080 series is very popular here. Just counted 8 systems running them that are part of the top 50.

I was told that in performance and efficiency they are not much more than the gtx 1080 ti for boinc. Did they have Tensor cores?

All RTX series have Tensor

All RTX series have Tensor cores.  But why are you concerned of those?  No tensor cores are used anywhere in BOINC.
