I use the cheap gunk, it lasts way more than 3 years, and nothing overheats. I will not be conned by this nonsense of adding silver and so forth. Since the gunk is a fraction of a mm thick, the conductivity of it isn't that important.
I am going to quote some assorted famous scientists here "You are entitled to your own opinion. You are NOT entitled to your own Facts."
If you investigate your Facts to confirm you really don't over heat when you OC your cpu's then.... but you indicated you are a big fan of "auto" for CPU Boost and for PBO (Amd only). So I think you would have to try some of the "high priced" premium "gunk" on a previously over-heating/Over clocked CPU before you could be convincing to the rest of us.
The "lapping" that came up earlier is something that is your basic "hot rodding" of the cpu ability to cool (and therefore run faster in OC). As the manufacturers quality goes up, frequency of the CPU OC gains have gone down for lapping cpus.

Are you replying to the right person? I don't overclock. It's a crazy idea that causes crashes and corruptions. The manufacturer knows what speed that chip can do reliably, they are binned according to tests. We don't know better than them.
When using the correct speed for a chip, they do not overheat with stock coolers and cheap gunk.
If this page takes an hour to load, reduce posts per page to 20 in your settings, then the tinpot 486 Einstein uses can handle it.

Now I have another problem. Except for the #3 slot running at x2 speeds I now have a 4 slot Pcie 4.0/Gen4, Am4 socket rig. Should I give into temptation (right after I buy some more name-brand ribbon cables? :)

What are USB overvoltage errors? Never heard of that before.
According to google it means too much power is being drawn through that/those ports. I interpreted that to mean a "short"

A short on USB pins would be a short of +5V rail. Not good. If a port is shorted you should see if the trace to the +5V pin can be cut through if on the surface.

Today I cleared the CMOS and the MB booted.
It still shows the over voltage USB errors but they no longer stop the post/booting.
Current testing shows that the #3 from the cpu long slot is probably reacting to the USB issue. It will only run at X2 with a Rtx 3080 ti plugged in.
