I am wondering what would be

I am wondering what would be a "good" (aka inexpensive) replacement/upgrade Nvidia for the Gtx 1080 I have?  When paired with an RTX 3080 ti it seemed to be getting 400,000-500,000 RAC.

Which was disappointing.  I was hoping to break the 3M RAC barrier with that combination.

Probably would have to match

Probably would have to match up with another Ampere card.  The only card that I think that would fit your criteria of beating out the 1080 would be a 1080 Ti. That card is about 60 second faster that a 2080 and the 1080.

Might find one for a good price from someone upgrading.

depends on your

depends on your budget.

3060Ti would outperform it. even a 2070 would.

your 3080Ti does about 2.5-2.6Mil. you just need something ~1mil.

my RTX 2070 @150 watts (pretty hefty power limit from 175 stock) do about 1M each.

my RTX 2080's @185W do about 1.14M each

my RTX 3060Ti was doing about 1.4M @ 200W

. . Sadly the weather is getting hotter here again. The room holds at 28C overnight and hits 34 to 35 during the day. The 970 rig is running flat at 80C.  Anyone able to tell me the nvidia command to cap the power usage?  Maybe I can cool it off a bit by using that.

 . . Have fun ppl!

in a terminal:[code]sudo

in a terminal:

sudo nvidia-smi -i <device number> -pl <number in watts>

example: GPU #1 @ 150W

sudo nvidia-smi -i 0 -pl 150

example: GPU #2 @ 125W

sudo nvidia-smi -i 1 -pl 125

Why do so many GPUs have (in

Why do so many GPUs have (in their specs) a listing of Operating System Support for Windows 7 or Windows 10 (both 64 bit), but no other, such as Linux or MAC?  My Nvidia cards work just fine in Linux.

Because none of them have

Because none of them have official driver support teams for anything BUT Windows since it is the dominant OS in the marketplace the cards are targeted for.

Thanks for that Ian.  If I were not so rusty I might have thought to use the help function ... getting old sucks.

Yaaaayyy!  . . The 970's

Yaaaayyy!

. . The 970's were head butting 80C constantly and according to the watch command using about 160W with the limit at 180W. I dropped  the limit to 150W and they instantly dropped 3 degrees to a nice consistent 77C.

 . . Feeling much happier now :)

Ian&SteveC:  I have a 3080 in a Windows 10 machine, but my numbers are far lower - is there a discussion about optimizing?  Thanks
