That's just nuts.
The Radeon VII is a better buy than the 6800 anyway, IMO. more utility for other projects like milkyway.
Maybe I had a bad sample, but my Radeon VII was troublesome from the beginning right through to the very end, many months later. My two big Navi cards, and my preceding four Navi cards, by contrast, have almost always "just run" (once the firmware update that allowed Einstein tasks to validate came out months after the initial Navi availability).
For the time it came out, the Radeon VII performance on Einstein GRP work was indeed fabulous, but that competitive position was not matched across other important comparisons.
Its funny you say that Archae86, because it was you who helped me fine tune my Radeon VII's.
I must admit, I do have some flakiness with one of them. For example, I came home to find a AMD bug report about a driver. The tasks had been running for 7hrs. If I pause crunching then restart, it fixes the issue and returns to normal. No idea what causes that but I guess it's part & parcel of crunching.
I sold off a Vega 56 for $200 more than I bought it for brand new so I'm happy to put some crunching on the back burner whilst these stupid prices are around.
If I am reading the eBay listings right I might be able to sell two Rx 5700 gpus to "buy it now" a Rx 6800 xt.
Does this make sense?

But if you want to cut down the number of RX-5700 GPUs so you can run the more effective RX-6800XT GPUs, then go for it.
Historically I have tinkered with more than 2 gpu solutions that are not plugged directly into the MB.
And even with flat ribbon cables I am still having trouble with adding/switching systems.
So it occurred to me if I really could swap from 4 Rx 5700's to 2 Rx 6800xt's plugged directly into the MB I MIGHT be in a better place.

I think earlier in this thread, it was mentioned that the 6800 is a better buy than the 6800XT. the XT version is only slightly faster for Einstein.
The 6800 seems to be only ~10% faster than your 5700 so trading in 2x 5700 for 1x 6800 does not seem worth it. you will lose production overall.
