The celestial globe portion of the screen saver peeked out for two cycles on Friday. I hadn't seen it for over a week. I can start the program manually by activating the executable file, but it is not a screen saver and is not connected to the BOINC program. Still waiting for an update on how to get this to activate like it used to. Any thoughts?
The celestial globe showed up again on 12/27/20. Even my wife asked me, "Why don't you use the 'star' program on your computer anymore'". If my wife notices that something has changed on my computer, you can bet it is significant. The program calls the routine for the star globe, but at 9 day intervals. Is this enough clues for the Windows version of the program to fix this so that the star globe at least is periodic with the other BOINC screen saver routines?
From what I understand our graphics does apps get launched as part of the BOINC screensaver, but not as often as it used to, correct? How many other projects do you run in parallel to ours? How do your BOINC screensaver settings look like? Can you launch the our graphics using the "Show Graphics" button (BOINC Manager, Advanced View) without problems?
For a little over 24 hours, the star sphere worked, then last night it seemed to stop. When it is working the star sphere appears as I have it programmed by the options of the screensaver. When I got up this morning, it was not working and it stopped late last night. I attempted to use the "show graphics" button, but it was grayed out. Yesterday, when it was working I could use the "show graphics" button. I am only running one project, which is the gravitational waves searches. I thought for a while yesterday that it had been fixed and I was so relieved when I would walk by my office and see the star globe. But while lying in bed last night reading, it stopped and I could tell right away, because it took a long time to go back to the star globe. While it was working, it would only spend about 2 minutes on the statistics. I attempted to "update" and the stats updated, but the "show graphics" was still grayed out.
I'm out of ideas I'm afraid. As you can see there's no principle problem with our graphics app itself. When it can be (and is) launched by "Show graphics" it does work and the same applies to the BOINC screensaver. Both of these things are controlled by BOINC itself, not us, unfortunately.
The logic for the "Show Graphics" button can be found here (look for "enableShowGraphics = false"). As you can see the buttons state depends mainly on the task(s) you selected and the over all task suspension state. To further debug your scenario you want to make sure you select a singlerunning task. If that does not reliably enable the "Show Graphics" button that would very likely be a bug in BOINC.
Also, please make sure your BOINC settings regarding suspension are set to your preferences. There won't be any graphics if tasks are suspended.

Hi Bobby,
I'm out of ideas I'm afraid. As you can see there's no principle problem with our graphics app itself. When it can be (and is) launched by "Show graphics" it does work and the same applies to the BOINC screensaver. Both of these things are controlled by BOINC itself, not us, unfortunately.

To further debug your scenario you want to make sure you select a single running task. If that does not reliably enable the "Show Graphics" button that would very likely be a bug in BOINC.
Also, please make sure your BOINC settings regarding suspension are set to your preferences. There won't be any graphics if tasks are suspended.
Hope this helps,
