Device not showing up at my account

Hi folks,

hope this it the right place to pose this question:

Parallel to my desktop pc I started running E@H on two android phones. While the one device is listed properly at "computers", the other one does not show up in the list.

However, the "invisible" device is properly logged in and already received credits. Though the work units did not show up in the task list. I'm quite puzzled...
Can anybody explain to me what's going on there? Preferably in bureaucrat-friendly words? That would be so much appreciated :)

Greetings,

Michael

Could it be that the "lost"

Could it be that the "lost" computer is not associated with the same account as the others?

Can you supply the Einstein Computer ID for each of the two Android machines?  On my Windows PC Boinc shows this ID early in the lines logged in the Event log during startup, for example like this:

2/5/2018 12:09:09 PM | Einstein@Home | URL http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/; Computer ID 12449045; resource share 99

With that ID we'd have something to look at, as there is little to learn from looking at your list of computers and not seeing the one of interest.

No, that's not very likely.

No, that's not very likely. The invisible device is logged in with the same access data.

Activity log shows computer id: 12623337, however, this one is not listed.

Using the ID you supplied the Einstein computer page is:

https://einsteinathome.org/host/12623337

Which shows an Android machine belonging to Michael Hoffman, with two validated BRP results returned already.

What exactly do you mean by "not listed"?

Well, yes, it may work this

Well, yes, it may work this way around. But when I click on my account (Michael Hoffmann), it leads me to an empty project page. It's the same user id, but in this case, only 12623337 is shown, all other devices ( 11681202 and 12623231) are amiss. I really don't get it.

I tried to attach screenshots, however this did not work...

In order to get images to appear here, a method which works is to host one somewhere, then place the URL at which appears between img tags.

I have done this here today, posting on another thread:

Well the problem it that it is not the same user ID.  Two different accounts, both of which you apparently control, have been associated with your computers.

User ID 248391 (bearing the name Michael Hoffmann) has a single device, ID 12623337, the new Android one with a couple of validated WUs.

User ID 134543 (also bearing the name Michael Hoffmann) is the one under which you are posting in this thread, and has two devices, a Windows 10 desktop plus a different Android device, which so far has downloaded at least 24 WUs, but has not yet returned any.

It seems likely that you provided different credentials on the two new Android devices, both of which correspond to current Einstein accounts.  Most likely you want to log out of BOINC on the orphan device, and log back in again using the credentials associated with the account you like.  That "log out" is slightly glib, I'm not sure just how strongly you need to back away to do this.

Good luck.

There appear to be two

There appear to be two separate "Michael Hoffmann" accounts.  The one used for posting here has ID=134543 whereas the account to which computer 12623337 is attached has ID=248391.

When this happens, I seem to recall that the usual procedure (without staff intervention) was to abandon the secondary account, after completing/aborting any tasks (and setting junk values for user and password, if possible) and shift the device to the correct (primary) account by detaching/reattaching.  I've never needed to do this so I don't know the precise procedure.

If I had to do it I'd just wait for the work cache to empty, stop BOINC, delete the account_einstein.....xml file on the device and replace that file with a copy of the same file from a correctly registered device on the primary account.  On restarting BOINC, there would be some initial (but harmless) confusion because the state file would contain the old host ID belonging to the old account.  This should get replaced by a new value after a scheduler contact, so not really a problem.  After that, all the devices should be visible on the primary account.

However, this is just what I would do off the top of my head.  There may be a more 'officially sanctioned' ways to do this without deleting/editing/replacing configuration files :-).

EDIT:  I hadn't seen Archae86's response until after I had posted.  We are telling you the same thing.  You have two accounts, same name but different credentials.  You need to abandon one and get all devices on the other.  As far as I'm aware, you have two options.  You could hope that a staff member might find time to correct it for you or you could follow a procedure like I posted above.  The account file is in the main BOINC folder so if you are comfortable with browsing the BOINC tree, you should be able to find it very easily.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks for your answers,

Thanks for your answers, guys!

I was able to get along: Though I thought I was using the same access data, that was apparently not the case. What I did was quite simple: I removed the project from the manager on the android device and added it again, making sure to use the correct credentials.

What can I say? The very moment you do it right, it suddenly works Laughing

I'm not sure where I took the wrong turn but I'm happy now it works. Ok, the credits for the previous tasks are lost, but I think I can deal with that :)

Michael
