Now, this raspberry pi thing was supposed to be a fun side project. Not so much. I don't know how to hook up the monitor. I have one cable that came with the monitor. I have another that came with the pi. Neither cable works in the other part. I have a call in to my geeky brother. Hopefully he can help :)
Now that is REALLY frustrating. Does one have a VGA connector while the other has an HDMI one?
Heck if I know. I though everything came with HDMI these days. SIlly me :)

Unfortunately some cheap monitors come only with legacy VGA.

AND to make the brand new DVI only video cards you will need a dongle adapter to make them work with those older monitors. The old dvi to vga plugs won't cut it anymore with the new 480 and 1060 gpu's!! They also have no pins above and below the spade in the dvi connection making it even harder to find the right adapter!! The one that works is the one that has a short cable between the two plugs, you can get them for about $5 each but you have to really look for them to find them at that price.

Many of the monitors I've seen lately come with both HDMI and VGA/Digital connectors.
