The help is in the FAQ, and the fora. You can even post questions as a guest, but only edit them as a registered user.
thanks for the demo of my stats.
I could not find anywhere to post questions as guest, maybe I looked in the wrong place. I did try before asking here!
The FAQ seem well above starting level. No doubt helpful to advanced users, but did not seem to provide simple answers like the one Sharky just gave, if I may say so. (Hope that comes over as constructive comment - thatis the spirit intended).
O.K. now you lost me with all the tags and sites. Right now I'd like to know is why are my stats not changing?
how often does your stats site update its stats?
When someone asks for your stats banner, mundatweb does not go back every time to all the BOINC sites to get the info - instead it goes in at set intervals gets the stats wholesale, and then works from those figures till the next time round.
Your stats won't change more often than that. If the BOINC project was unreachable when your stats site tried to get an update, your stats will change even less often.
People with Pirates stats will find those never change again, as that BOINC site has gone offline permanently. The last day's Pirates stats should remain in the banners however as the last copies are still held by all the stats sites.
Have you been granted credit?
When a wu is returned, you do not necessarily get credit right away, often you have to wait till other people who are working the same wu send it back so that the results can be validated against each other.
Combine this effect with the scenario where you get granted the credit just after the daily check-in from your stats site, and you get an even longer delay till the next visible change in your stats.

Hi "~~gravywavy",
Bottom line is at some point in time space the stats should be close. LOL

That’s entirely possible. I write the F.A.Q.’s when many people have the same questions.
Somehow, I do seem to know my way in BOINCstats, and I don’t have question marks popping up in my head :)
Let me know anything what was/is confusing or unclear for you. I’ll start writing a beginners F.A.Q.

absolutely!

Something like a thread in the FAQ, preferably one that is set to appear always on the first page of the FAQ, called 'Getting Started' or 'Please read this first'. Alternatively, maybe even a separate 'Getting started' board with different threads for each of the questions below. Maybe too a 'Getting started in BOINCstats' link on the front page, if you can find any more space.
Points I'd appreciate seeing there would be
* do I need to be in your team to use your stats?
* do I need to register to use the stats?
* when would I want to register on the BOINCstats site?
when you want to post stuff on this site [is that the right answer, if not correct it as appropriate]
* when would you like me to register
[ie, is it good for your site to have lots of people registering who never post (maybe you'd like to keep track of them anyway), or do you prefer people not to clutter up your database unless they intend to contribute. When I use a free service, if the site provider tells me their preference I'd go along with it.]
* if I do register on BOINCstats, does it matter which email address I give or what name I use, does it have to be the same as I used when I registered for XX@home?
* how do people get those neat little stats boxes at the bottom of their postings?
You need to know three different things to get this working. First how to set up a signature on the relevant site, on a BOINC site try looking under forum preference. Secondly how to include a graphic image in a signature. On BOINC sites there is often a link 'How to use BBtags' on the pages where you can use them. If you can't find out how to do those two things, please ask on the relevant site - BOINCstats can't help you further on these. [this makes the BOINCstats faq future-proofed against some non-standard project bulletin board you don't even know about. The word 'usually' is included in the advice for the same reason, even if at present you happen to know it is 'always' so]
The third thing you need to know is the url for your stats banner. To find this enter your name into the search box on the first page, and once BOINCstats has found you click on the little icon next to the flag.
* BOINCstats doesn't find me
[...maybe something about it can't find you if you never got credit, is the search case sensitive, etc]
* I signed up using different names on different projects. Do I have to use the same name to get my stats all together?
* I used different email addresses when I signed up to different projects - will this be a problem for BOINCstats? [if so, how to fix it...]
And the most important point, in my opinion, is that if you get advanced users posting questions that are significantly beyond this sort of standard, please use your moderators powers to move those questions onto a separate thread. Keep the newbie and geeky FAQs separate and you will find more people showing evidence of reading them. All too often on the net the reply to 'read the FAQ' is 'I did and now I need a FAQ to expain the FAQ'.
I really appreciate you making a personal response to my posting. I hope these thoughts help you to make your service even more accessible.

Willys BoincStats is free from signups anyway.
Just write down your or anyones username in the searchbox and hit enter. ;)
The details are found when clicking on the little icon next to the flag.

Thanks Sharky,
that is really helpful - I'd worked out the search but not seen the significance of the little icon.
Maybe those two lines of advice could go on the BOINCstats site under a thread called 'Getting started with BOINCstats' or some such?

Not quite correct.
BOINCstats updates the stats as soon as the projects update their XML files. Credits and rankings are calculated immediately.
Only the history tables and adding new users is done once a day.
