I had a hard drive crash on one PC (Gw5-12)
In rebuilding the replacement hard drive,
I accidently installed the 32bit version on my 64 bit PC
Realising my error I tried to un-install, so I could re-install the 64bit version! But I just get an error message "Failed to delete Boinc-admins' Group"
I seem to be stuck?? Can anyone help.

Are you talking about the Boinc software or the OS? If Boinc try installing the 64 bit version right over the top of the 32bit version. If the OS try wiping the disk and then installing the right one.

Thanks for your ideas. No the

Thanks for your ideas.
No the op sys is ok.
It is Boinc s/w
I did try your suggestion to Install the 64bit over the top, but
get a almost identical error message from:
BOINC Installer Info (dialoge window) with the message:
"Failed to delete the boinc_admins' group."
Then get Wizard reports:
Wizard interupted before complete installation. Your system was not modified."

So I am still stumped!!

Try the install again but

Try the install again but instead of double clicking the program, right click on the program and run as administrator. This will set different permissions and may get past your error.

I suggest seeking help on the

I suggest seeking help on the BOINC boards at Berkeley, since it's their program and not Einstein's.

Why don't you use the OS to

Why don't you use the OS to manually delete the boinc_admins group and afterwards try installing the 64 bit version 'over the top' as before?

What 32 bit version did you install and what 64 bit version are you attempting to replace it with?

Have you tried putting the precise error message into google to see what turns up?

Cheers,
Gary.

This BOINC FAQ has

This BOINC FAQ has instructions for deleting users and groups in both 'Home' and 'Professional' versions of Windows:

How do I completely uninstall BOINC 6 and 7, on Windows / Uninstall to prepare for reinstall?

I have now tried to "Delete"

I have now tried to "Delete" the Boinc_Admins' Groups
It appears that the Boinc latest version 7.4.42 Virtual Box 4.3.12
has created two "Users" (without my permission) that have "administrative" rights and are pass-worded!!
On trying to delete both the BOINC Users, I get an error as I do not know the password that BOINC set it up with?
I am becoming increasingly frustrated with my situation, not to mention going backwards on my world ranking! It would appear to me that the BOINC program has actually got TOO smart for it's own good.
Note: On start-up the Boinc error message is:
"Boinc Manager - Daemon Start failed.
Boinc Manager is not able to start a Boinc Client.
Please launch the Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services applet & start the Boinc Service."
I tried to manually start the service, as instructed, but get almost identical error message, but one further piece of info "Error 1069 - The Service did not start due to a login failure.
