Ya'd think a doctor would know enough to wear hearing protection.
But then ya'd also think I'd know enough to wear it when I'm conducting a train, and I don't. I can stick a finger in one ear when I do the whistle, but not being Zaphod Beeblebrox, I don't have a third hand to do the whistle while I stick a finger in the other ear. (But then, if I were Zaphod Beeblebrox, I'd have four ears and three hands wouldn't be enough even for that, let alone doing the whistle too.) The really stupid thing is, I have ear plugs in my grip and just never bother to dig them out. I need to get a set of the ones with the cord running between them so I can pull them out and drape them around my neck when I don't need them.
