I wonder if they were able to recharge the fire suppression system. I can't imagine them running the colo with out it. Overall outstanding work by the colo staff.

I'd imagine that the companies which supply and maintain those systems have a fast-response refill team available - at a price.
Looking at the ongoing list of University systems that were affected, if UCB didn't have that contract before this started, they will do now.

Description: Saturday 09/19/2015 11:18
CalNet is up and running. Access to Google, Box, bCourses, Service Now and other cloud hosted systems has been restored
VPN services are now up and available
Databases and Webfarm are being brought up to enable www.berkeley.edu (11:30 ETA)
Work has started to restore service to campus phones that were affected by the outage
Richard would be about right, any fire suppression system that gets installed would normally have a contract for maintenance. A Uni would have one I'm sure.

we've unplugged all identical servers from power, and have already contacted our vendor to do an autopsy on it. a cursory examination points to a popped capacitor, and resulting fire.
there are a lot of people at the colo right now bringing back up all of the datacenter infrastructure and services... i'm sure we'll get an official update soon.
No injuries reported - just a smoked server, a stinky machine room, and a lot of inconvenience for all of us.
Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)
Why do doctors have to practice?
You'd think they'd have got it right by now

And the University of California is not a single campus either, but 10! And not a small place either. Total expenses 2014-15 $26,909,756,000.00 Page 211 http://www.ucop.edu/operating-budget/_files/rbudget/2015-16budgetforcurrentoperations_.pdf With a 27 billion dollar budget you do things like protect a critical data center.

Well, looks like that Emergency Chocolate Dispenser was a good idea.....
Thou, I'm not going to be licking it off the server ;)
But at least we know it works on fires...
So, time to get out the mops and buckets and clean up the place. (what was that number again for ServicePro?)

Well the Colo looks almost back to normal, with any more problems treated as day to day stuff. Could have been a lot worse.
