Well, the antibiotic did its

Well, the antibiotic did its job. Also, I have stuck with the Invokana for more than the week I said I would. If I'm going out, I take it earlier so that the worst of its effects are over by the time of day they would be a problem. I'm also only doing trains at the museum that run out of the main depot, so I can use the facilities almost any time I need to.

The weekend after I fell down, I took a break from the museum. But then on Tuesday, I took my friend and his daughter out there. Got to be a combination of regular railfan, tour guide, and novice volunteer. I got to run the weekday streetcar, Illinois Terminal 415. It came to the museum right out of suburban service in St. Louis. When the museum moved from North Chicago to Union, it was the first thing to run under its own power. It was built in 1924 and has never had a restoration; it just keeps getting maintained and repaired as necessary. They say it has more miles on it on our railroad than it did on the IT. Running it is a very different experience from the car I'm qualified on. Have to keep the controller pressed down or it puts the brakes in emergency, which shuts off the power. Brakes are much tighter too.

Then on Saturday I did another stint as student conductor. Busy day and no problems with the engine, once they finally brought it out. Ran five trips, one in the rain. Did fairly well. Just need more practice before I try to qualify. I think I'll go again this Sunday. During the busy day, the diesel guys wanted to do some switching. They had to take their newest unit, merely 28 years old, out to the steam leads to remove its batteries. The floor of the battery box is totally rotted out, and they had dropped a bit so they wouldn't just slide out.

And if you're wondering, the tornadoes last night were south of me. Nothing here at all.

Darn, I woke up this morning

Darn, I woke up this morning to find that I had missed an aurora ! They aren't normally up this far north of the pole. I hear it was beautiful.

Magic, I could come visit you using my rocket pack if you like :

Canute. Of course. Dear old King Canute. No kings like that about these days ....

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) Aha. Chance of further auroras tonite. Stay tuned .....

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

I did the same thing up here!

I woke up at 12:30am and went out to the livingroom to change the channel on the satellite receiver and forgot to even look out the window and was up until 5am.

Yeah I bet your rocket pack could make it up here as long as you didn't fly too close to the ocean and maybe fly up along the coast

No auroras, or if there was

No auroras, or if there was the clouds hid them.

Somehow I can't quite get over the idea of wearing a tie while using a rocket pack.

Cheers, Mike.

That's probably why I have never been approached by British Intelligence. I'm told that Rowan Atkinson is rather more suave than me ... :-(

Cheers, Mike.
