I installed Windows 10 on a SSD and connected it to my old 780i Q6600 system. The AMD drivers seemed to work good and BOINC was able to find the OpenCL hardware okay. The one feature missing was overclocking support. AMD OverDrive was missing from the AMD control panel and the AfterBurner tool was not able to recognize any of the frequencies of the R9-290x.
Unfortunately, I think either the chipset SATA controller or SSD is failing as the system was intermittently crashing. When I switched to Linux OS, there were failure notices in the kernel log in relation to the controller. The SSD would intermittently disconnect. I did not see much runtime in Windows 10 with this project yet due to the hardware issue.

I am running SSD drives on all my Linux boxes. They have all been running 24/7 for about 2 years. I hope I am not going to have problems with them. How old is your SSD?
If you get errors in two OS's it's very likely hardware. Since your system seem to be much older than the SSD, the mainboard would be the prime candidate. It's not certain, though. Could you install a SATA controller card?
@robl: don't worry, good or even normal SSDs don't fail like this. Occasionally one of them has to go, though, just as it happens to any other component.
I have two spare SSDs that I tested with this system. One is an Intel 520 120GB SSD running Linux and the other is a Samsung MCCOEA2G5MXP-0VB 120GB SLC SSD running Windows 10. It seems unlikely that both drives are faulty but I have to test them on another system to be sure. The 520 I believe is nearly 3-years old.
Windows 10 would become unresponsive after a short while of crunching time. I did not see anything in the event log at the time which could be due to the drive disconnecting and the OS being unable to write to the event log. Linux would lose connectivity with the Intel drive and show the controller errors in the kernel log.
Overall, my SSDs have been very reliable. I have seen many more hard disk failures over SSD failures.
One new problem that cropped up forced me to make a change...I originally installed the free AVG antivirus but everytime it updated itself it required a Windows restart and would just sit there asking permission to do it, all the while telling me I was unprotected. When I would click yes to do the restart it would go thru the startup process and then after about 10 minutes tell me to reboot AGAIN so the AVG could do its thing. This became a non stop never ending loop. I have now installed the free version of Bitdefender and will keep an eye on it.
Other than that I now have the latest version of Windows 10 Preview, it did it automatically, and don't see any difference for the little bit I do with the pc.
Does anyone have any more news on win 10? I am interested in converting my win 7 and win 8.1 systems over to win 10. My 3 systems are running primarily Einstein now in this cooler weather. When it warms up I'll slow down on boinc and use them primarily for other purposes. It sounds now according to a seti forum that the conversion will be free and permanently so. Thanks

It isn't scheduled to be released to the public until the Fall, schedules change but don't jump in just yet! It is STILL in Beta testing and does still have some 'bugs'.

Sounds like AVG is not yet compatible. Which is not all that surprising, since a modern anti-virus must root itself deeply into the system.
